Why Bet on the New York Rangers?

The Rangers broke out to a 2-0 second-period lead in Game 3 but couldn’t hold it and gave up a goal in the final minute to lose 3-2 and see their series lead cut to 2-1. Mika Zibanejad produced one goal and one assist in the loss for the Blueshirts. Zibanejad posted both points on New York power plays during the second period to give his team a 2-0 lead. Zibanejad has seven goals and six assists during an eight-game point streak. He has accounted for 10 goals and 14 helpers in 17 matches this postseason.

Chris Kreider scored a power-play goal to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead at the 9:44 mark of the second period with his 10th goal of this postseason. He has provided four goals and three assists during a five-game point streak. Kreider is up to 15 points in 17 games this postseason. Defenseman Adam Fox extended his point streak to eight straight games. Fox set up a power-play goal by Mika Zibanejad to open the scoring at the 7:37 of the second period. He has compiled two goals and 11 helpers during his point spree. Fox has amassed five goals and 23 points in 17 matches this postseason.

Artemi Panarin collected two assists. Panarin has five markers and 15 points in 17 contests this postseason. Igor Shesterkin turned aside 48 of 51 shots. He was excellent throughout the contest and faced 19 shots in the third period when his teammates only managed to get nine on target. Tampa Bay scored twice in the third and got the game winner with just 41.6 seconds remaining in regulation time.

Forward Ryan Strome left Game 3 with a lower-body injury. He didn’t take part in Monday’s optional practice, but Coach Gerard Gallant said the team expects him to play on Tuesday.

Why Bet on the Tampa Bay Lightning?

Ondrej Palat scored with 42 seconds remaining in the third period to win Game 3. Palat received a backhand pass from Nikita Kucherov and scored short side just inside the post from below the right face-off dot. Palat’s game-winning goal was his 10th career in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, passing Tyler Johnson for the most in Lightning history. Palat has six goals and 10 points in 14 games this postseason.

“Palat, we’ve seen this for years. He is a great kid, he doesn’t say anything,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “All he does is give you everything he has on every shift. He’s played up and down the lineup, but he’s got the ability to play that blue-collar game with white-collar players, and that’s a great trait to have.”

Palat has scored 43 career playoff goals, the second-most in Tampa Bay franchise history. His 83 playoff points and 40 assists both rank fourth. His plus-29 playoff rating is tied with Kucherov for the best in franchise history.

Kucherov produced three points, with one goal and two assists. Kucherov has six goals and 20 points in 14 games this postseason, including two straight multi-point performances. Steven Stamkos had one goal and one assist and has six goals and 12 points in 14 games this postseason. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves on 30 shots.

It was a dominant third period for Tampa Bay, who outshot New York by a count of 19-6 in the final frame with the Lightning attempting 32 shots and the Rangers attempting 11. The Bolts finished the game with a 51-30 shot advantage. The Lightning posted a multi-goal comeback win in the playoffs for the ninth time in franchise history and just the third to conclude in regulation: Game 4 of 2021 Second Round (vs. CAR) and Game 4 of 2011 Conference Finals (vs. BOS). Cooper said that forward Brayden Point (lower body) will not be available for Game 4 Tuesday. Point was at the optional practice Monday but is still not ready to go. He has been out since May 14 with an injury suffered in Game 7 of the opening round against the Maple Leafs.

The Lightning allowed six goals in one game after allowing seven combined during a six-game winning streak going back to Game 6 against the Maple Leafs.

“It was different types of goals,” defenseman Victor Hedman said. “Some were in the zone; some were off the rush. It’s just execution in our game plan. It’s not just with the puck, it’s without the puck, too, being in the right spots. A couple of breakdowns there and (the Rangers) were able to execute and were able to find the back of the net.”

Tampa Bay is 18-0 following a loss in the postseason dating to 2020. No other team in league history has won more than 10 playoff games in a row following a loss.
