Why Bet on the LSU Tigers?
Both schools come off their bye week. LSU (6-2) might be the best offensive team in the country but really struggles defensively. It can’t afford another loss and hope to return to the SEC title game. The Tigers warmed up for this game back on Oct. 21 with a 62-0 rout of Army – so obviously the defense played well that day.
Star quarterback Jayden Daniels finished the first half 11-of-15 for 279 yards passing and three touchdowns. Daniels, who only played in the first half, posted the eighth-most passing yards in a single half in LSU history, the most since 294 by Garrett Nussmeier in the second half of the 2022 SEC Championship versus Georgia.
“When your quarterback is playing at that kind of level, he gives you a chance to win every game,” LSU Brian Kelly said of Daniels. “He’s got a great supporting cast, there’s no doubt about it. But the quarterback is the driver. Right now he’s playing at an elite level.”
It was another productive night for the Tigers’ 1-2 punch at receiver. Brian Thomas Jr. recorded three catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns while Malik Nabers tallied four catches for 121 yards and two scores of his own. Trey Holly made his LSU debut a memorable one, scoring on a 67-yard touchdown and leading the Tigers in rushing. Holly, a true freshman, rushed for 91 yards on six carries, averaging 15.2 yards a carry. His 67-yard touchdown run put the Tigers over the 200-yard mark for rushing yards for the fourth straight game.
Holly won SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the sixth honor is the sixth for a Tiger this year as he joins Daniels, who has been named the league’s offensive player of the week three times, Nabers (SEC Offensive Player of the Week) and Emery Jones (SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week).
Daniels has accounted for 30 total touchdowns (25 passing, 5 rushing). His 30 TDs responsible for through eight games stand behind only Joe Burrow’s 33 in 2019. Daniels continues to lead the nation in total offense with 386.8 yards per game. He’s averaging 321.6 passing yards a game – No. 3 nationally – and 65.1 rushing yards a contest. His 521 rushing yards are the fourth-most among FBS quarterbacks. Daniels also leads the nation in pass efficiency (204.3 rating), passing yards per attempt (11.54) and he’s one of only two players nationally to have rushed and passed for TDs in the same game four times.
Thomas ranks first in the FBS with 11 touchdown receptions, while Nabers is first nationally in receiving yards with 981. LSU is the only school in the nation with two receivers ranked in the Top 10 in receiving yards – Thomas is No. 10 with 732. The Tigers have scored 48 points or more in four straight games – a first for LSU during the SEC era – and lead the nation with 47.4 points a contest.
Why Bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide?
Alabama (8-0) entered the bye off a 34-20 home win over No. 17 Tennessee on Oct. 21. Quarterback Jalen Milroe completed 14 of his 21 passes for 220 and a pair of scores, marking the fifth time in seven starts this season that he has thrown for at least 220 yards and at least two touchdowns. Jermaine Burton had four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown while Isaiah Bond also found paydirt, finishing with three catches for 77 yards. Running back Jase McClellan once again led the ground attack, finishing with 115 of the Crimson Tide’s 138 total rushing yards.
The Crimson Tide rank 78th in the FBS with 366.6 total yards a game, and 50th in scoring at 30.6 points per outing. Traditionally, one of their strengths is running the ball, but they rank just 76th at 147.1 yards a game, which is eighth in the SEC.
Will Reichard hit both of his field goal attempts in the contest and has now made 28 consecutive field goals. With his nine points on the night (two field goals, three extra points), Reichard climbed up to No. 5 on the NCAA all-time career points list with 495. With five more points, he would become just the fourth player in NCAA history to score 500 or more points in their career (1. Keenan Reynolds [530], 2. Kenneth Dixon [522], 3. Montee Ball [500]).
Alabama leads LSU 55-27-5 all-time, but the Tigers were 32-31 OT winners at home last year on the way to winning the SEC West. Daniels ran for a 25-yard touchdown in overtime and then found Mason Taylor for a do-or-die 2-point conversion. Alabama began overtime with the ball and took a 31-24 lead on Roydell Williams’ second touchdown of the game. But Daniels needed one play in overtime to score and force a decision by Coach Brian Kelly to try to tie it with a kick or go for it. Kelly opted to try for the win. Smart move. Alabama’s Bryce Young passed for 328 yards and one touchdown, and also was intercepted. There were three lead changes in the final 4:44.
