Why Bet on the LSU Tigers?
With O’Connell, Purdue’s offense could rock. The Big Ten runner-up team hung with champ Michigan in the conference title game.
O’Connell threw for 366 yards. But Aidan was the strength of the offense, and his opting out puts a real emphasis on who will step it up. Without O’Connell, it’s difficult to see which quarterback, if any, will get it done versus a disciplined LSU defense.
The Purdue defense played well this season when limiting opponents to around 350 total yards. The D allowed 24.6 points per game.
Unlike the offense, the defense didn’t lose many players. Greg Hudgins III entered the transfer portal. He didn’t have a single tackle versus Michigan. Other than Hudgins, the defense will be intact.
Why Bet on the Purdue Boilermakers?
Daniels is out, but LSU backup QB Garrett Nussmeier appears fully capable of leading the Tigers’ charge. Nussmeier threw for 294 yards and 2 TDs to a single interception versus the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC title game.
LSU’s defense couldn’t stop UGA’s offense. But the Tigers scored 30 versus one of the better defenses in the nation. Nussmeier will miss WR Kayshon Boutte, who has opted out. Still, the LSU quarterback has plenty of targets because the Tigers are deep.
LSU will miss talent on the defensive side of the ball, including top edge rusher B.J. Ojulari. But the Tigers have enough talent to hold Purdue to LSU’s 23.7 points per game average.
Not only that, but top tackler senior Micah Baskerville should play. Baskerville could have a big game considering Purdue’s opt-outs.
LSU vs. Purdue Betting Trends
- Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 bowl games.
- LSU is 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games following an ATS loss.
- Over is 6-1 in LSU’s last 7 games.
- Boilermakers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games.
- Purdue is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.
- The total went over in 12 of Purdue’s last 18 games.
LSU vs. Purdue Expert Betting Predictions
If O’Connell were playing, Purdue might have a shot at the victory. But without O’Connell, there’s no chance the Boilermakers win this.
Not only that, but the Boilers must play without regular season head coach Jeff Brohm, who decided to take the top job at Louisville. Brohm and O’Connell are the reasons the Boilermakers won the Big Ten West.
Their absence is why the line drifted from LSU -6 all the way to Tigers -15.5. At -15.5, the Tigers are an iffy play. However, there’s no other bet to make in this game.
LSU coach Brian Kelly wants to prove to the Baton Rouge faithful that he takes bowl games seriously. Not only that, but Garrett Nussmeier wants to show he has what it takes to be LSU’s next great quarterback. The Tigers roll to a cover win.
