Magic vs. Bulls 2023 NBA Odds and Preview – November 15th

By Jeff Stinger

The Orlando Magic travels north for a date with the Chicago Bulls. Head coach Billy Donovan and the rest of his team will try to rebound from a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. The hosts won three of their last six home games and need a shake-up following an erratic start to the season. Meanwhile, the visitors hold a slightly better record coming into the contest. Orlando is on an even 5-5 record after losing to the Nets. It puts them ahead of the Bulls on paper, but facing a hostile United Center crowd will likely introduce a few challenges.

Why Bet on the Orlando Magic?

The Eastern Conference franchise failed to follow up their win against the Bucks last time. Orlando fell into the hands of the Nets in a 124-104 defeat. The squad endured a poor shooting night, hitting only 43.9% of their shots from the field. They were also outperformed by the Nets from deep–48.7% versus the Magic’s 34.8% three-point percentage.

The starters shared a chunk of offensive duties against the Nets. Franz Wagner topped the team with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Paolo Banchero closed his 35-minute stint with 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Bitadze and Suggs combined for 24 points, five boards, and three assists. Meanwhile, Joe Ingles, Moritz Wagner, and Jonathan Isaac scored no less than 10 points off the bench.

Orlando features decent team stats leading up to the clash. The squad averages 109.5 points (26th) per game on 45.2% shooting (24th). They hit 52.0% of their shots from short and mid-range (22nd) while averaging 33.3% from deep (27th). Defensively, this team limits opponents to 107.9 points (sixth) per game on 47.4% shooting (22nd). They also average 54.8 total rebounds (seventh) per game, featuring a seventh-best offensive boards record at 12.3 per game.

Why Bet on the Chicago Bulls?

Chicago aims to recover from a nine-point loss to the Bucks. This is the first of back-to-back games versus the Magic. The Bulls will try to build momentum with home advantage on their side. In their recent outing, the squad shot an underwhelming 38.0% from the field and 33.3% from deep. They did better on the line at 90.5% but couldn’t close the deficit in the final quarter. Nikola Vicevic and Zach LaVine scored at least 20 points each, while Coby White had 16 points, three rebounds, and an assist. DeMar DeRozan contributed elsewhere and closed his stint with 11 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

As a team, the Bulls average 109.8 points (24th) per game on 44.3% shooting (27th). This squad is not known for menacing offense but has enough firepower to keep imposing lineups on their toes. Chicago does well from the line and hits nearly 80% of their free throws (10th). They also have decent three-point shooting at 34.9% (20th) but have to do better from short and mid-range with a 49.3% two-point percentage (29th).

As for their defense, the team ranks 16th in the league in opponent points at 113.7 per game. They accomplish this through 47.0% opponent shooting (17th), underscoring a 37.3% opponent three-point (23rd) and 55.7% opponent two-point (23rd) percentages. Chicago needs to up their rebounding game as well. This unit averages 49.2 total rebounds (27th) across 11 games played.

Magic vs. Bulls Expert Betting Prediction

The Magic have the better record since the season started, pressing a trio of wins in their last six outings. Orlando also holds a better road record versus the Bulls. Their two wins in five away games add a touch of confidence to an otherwise grinding team. Covering the spread should be workable given the tight margins, and a win is definitely not off the scale.

Meanwhile, the Bulls must get out of this rut as early as possible. Their recent loss doesn’t help either. Several concerns could lead to a new lineup before the regular season ends, so positive results help the team find stability and maybe convince their star players to stay. The Bulls have no choice but make the most of home advantage with two consecutive meetings versus the Magic at United Center.
