Michigan Wolverines 2023 Straight-Up Overview
Jim Harbaugh must sit out Michigan’s first three games. The Wolverines self-imposed the suspension after the NCAA failed to come up with a suspension. The suspension happens versus East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green, three teams that Michigan not only should absolutely dominate, but who they will play at home. For sure, the Wolverines win those three games.
So when Harbaugh returns, the Maize & Blue will be 3-0. Michigan will also rank either second or third in the nation depending on what happens to Ohio State in their game against Notre Dame.
No matter where Michigan ranks, the Wolverines should dominate their Big Ten opponent, including putting a massive pasting on Penn State and Ohio State. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards return.
The offensive line boasts 5 starters with experience. 2 of the players, left tackle LaDarius Henderson and center Drake Nugent, come from the Pac-12. Henderson started for ASU and Nugent comes from Stanford.
The defense boasts 6 seniors. The 6 seniors support one of college football’s top linebackers, Junior Colson. Graduate player Michael Barrett should have a fantastic season because he plays next to Colson.
There’s a chance Michigan goes undefeated this season. The Wolverines should win their first four games no problem. Back-to-back road games against Nebraska and Minnesota may cause scares, but Michigan is much better than either the Cornhuskers or the Golden Gophers.
Indiana is a win on Oct 14. Beating Michigan State, especially on the road, is never easy, but the Wolverines will get by the Spartans.
After a home game against Purdue, Michigan faces their toughest stretch of the season. At Penn State, at Maryland, and versus Ohio State. Penn State is a good team and will pose the biggest risk to Michigan’s undefeated season.
Maryland is solid this season. The game happens on the Terrapins’ field. So Maryland should also be difficult to beat. Ohio State, believe it or not, could be Michigan’s easiest victory in the 3 games.
If Michigan loses to Penn State, they will go 11-1. Although the Wolverines are good enough to beat the Nittany Lions, Penn State will be tough to get by on the road. The Maize & Blue fall to the Lions, but beat everyone else on their schedule.
