Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – November 6th, 2023

By Hank Blaine

Just a reminder that group play of the NBA’s new In-Season Tournament began on Friday and will run every Tuesday and Friday through the end of the month – except for this Tuesday, which is Election Day in the United States so the league is dark. Here are two intriguing early-week matchups.

Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week (November 6th, 2023)

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Miami Heat

  • When: Monday, November 6th, 2023, 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Kaseya Center, Miami, FL
  • TV: Bally Sports Sun, Spectrum SportsNet
  • Radio: ESPN LA 710 (Lakers) // AM 560 Sports WQAM (Heat)
  • Live Stream: NBATV
  • NHL Betting Odds: Lakers (+3.5) // Heat (-3.5)

Always notable when LeBron James returns to south Florida, where of course he won a few titles with the Heat. The Lakers have been rather inconsistent in the early going and were spanked 120-101 in Orlando on Saturday to start this trip. LeBron had 24 points, rebounds, five assists and three steals in 35 minutes. James, Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves combined for 72 points on a night where the Lakers only mustered 101. Los Angeles currently ranks 19th league-wide with 109.9 points per 100 possessions.

Davis finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds and a season-high seven blocks. The Lakers dug a 14-point hole by the end of the first quarter and never closed the gap, but Davis’ production was great for fantasy managers. L.A. was never in control, getting beat on the boards 51-40, allowing 36 second-chance points and turning the ball over 17 times.

Following the loss, LeBron said this: “We’re like the Pittsburgh Steelers right now. The Pittsburgh Steelers right now have not outgained or outscored any of their opponents in this season right now, and yet they have a winning record.”

Starter Taurean Prince (left patellar tendonitis) missed a second straight game with his knee issue. Fellow forward Rui Hachimura was out in the concussion protocol. Guard Gabe Vincent (left knee effusion) will be sidelined for at least two weeks. And Lakers Tureen coach Darvin Ham said Saturday that rookie first-round pick Jalen Hood-Schifino (left patellar contusion) is still “a few weeks out” from being healthy enough to return.

Miami (2-4) comes off a 121-114 win over Washington on Friday in an In-Season Tournament game. Tyler Herro finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Herro led Miami in points, rebounds and assists while finishing just one dime shy of a triple-double. The sharpshooting guard was an efficient 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, and he’s now made at least four triples in four of his six games this season. Herro has taken his game up another level during the early part of the campaign, averaging 25.8 points, 5.7 boards, 5.0 assists, 3.8 three-pointers and 1.2 steals while shooting 45.1 percent from deep and 45.3 percent overall from the field through six games.

Herro has led Miami in scoring five straight games. Herro has scored 155 points so far through the first six games of the season, which marks as the fourth-most points through the first six games of a season in Heat history. Herro has connected on multiple three-point field goals in each game this season. The current six-game streak ties for the fourth-longest to start a season in Heat history.

Jimmy Butler is dealing with knee tendinitis, but he appears on track to play Monday. Butler has posted back-to-back 20-point games while logging 31 and 34 minutes in his last two contests. Reserve Caleb Martin will miss his sixth consecutive contest and there have been no concrete details on his ramp up from left knee tendinitis.

This will be the 71st meeting between the two franchises, with the Lakers holding a 39-31 all-time lead. Last season, the teams split the series, 1-1, with each squad winning on their homecourt These two squads met in the NBA playoffs for the first time in 2020, with the Lakers capturing the franchise’s 17th world title with a 4-2 series win in the 2020 NBA Finals in the Orlando bubble.

Will this finally be the game where All-Star Bradley Beal makes his Suns regular-season debut? Beal has been dealing with back pain ranging from tightness to spasms but did have a good workout over the weekend before being ruled out against the Pistons on Sunday. Devin Booker missed a second straight game due to an ankle injury Sunday. Coach Frank Vogel won’t be able to establish a regular rotation until Booker and Beal are playing full time, and it’s possible the fifth slot will keep changing throughout the season.

“I’m just excited for him,” Suns superstar Kevin Durant said of Beal. “I know how much these dudes love to play. They hate just being on the sidelines. We don’t want them to rush. We don’t want them to feel like it’s pressure to come back because we lose a couple of games. We want them to be 100% healthy for the rest of the season. So it’s important now to continue to ramp yourself up however you need to.”

Over the weekend, Durant recorded his 7,000th-career rebound and joined LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as the only players in NBA history with 27,000+ career points, 7,000+ rebounds, 4,000+ assists and 1,000+ 3FGM career. Durant played under Bulls coach Billy Donovan for three seasons in Oklahoma City from 2015-18.

Chicago leads the NBA in points off turnovers (133) and total defections (122), while tying for the league lead in steals (59). The Bulls have recorded 213 three-point field goal attempts through their first seven games of 2023-24, marking the fourth highest three-point attempt total in team history over the opening seven games of a season. The Bulls rank fourth in the league in total offensive rebounds (80) and tied for fifth in total second chance points (100). A season ago, Chicago was 28th in offensive boards (694) and 30th in second chance points (868), turning the tide in 2023-24.

The Suns have won seven-straight games over the Bulls, sweeping Chicago in each of the last four seasons. That seven-game winning streak over the Bulls is the Suns’ longest over them since winning 11-straight spanning 12/1/79-11/25/83. Booker scored 45 on 3/31/21 vs. Chicago, the most by a Suns player against the Bulls in franchise history, breaking a record that stood since the 1968-69 season.

Chicago’s DeMar DeRozan averaged 30.0 ppg versus the Suns in 2022-23, leading the Bulls in scoring in each of their two meetings. Zach LaVine is averaging 23.2 ppg and 6.4 apg in his last five games versus Phoenix.
