UFC 280 Main Card Preview

Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot

Although she’s the underdog, Chookagian brings a couple of physical advantages into the bout. Katlyn is 2 inches taller and has a 3-inch reach advantage. Not only that, but Chookagian is 12-4 and has fought the best fighters in her weight class.

Fiorot has a 9-1 record. She doesn’t come close to having the experience that Chookagian has. But the chalks is a beast. She’s 6-0 via kockout or technical knockout. It would be great if we could make a case for the underdog but Fiorot should overwhelm Katlyn.

UFC 280 Pick: Manon Fiorot

Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot

Underdog Beneil Dariush is 21-4-1 with an 8-1 submission record. Favorite Mateusz Gamrot has a 21-1 record. Gamrot is 7-0 via knockout or technical knockout and 5-0 via submissions. Mateusz’s stand up and ground game records are the reason he’s such a big chalk.

Dariush is in great form. The last loss happened in 2018. Gamrot’s odds make him a slight underlay. Backing Beneil makes sense.

UFC 280 Pick: Beneil Dariush

Petr Yan vs. Sean O’Malley

Favorite Petr Yan will give up 4 inches in height and 5 inches in reach when he steps into the Octagon on Saturday to take on Sean O’Malley. The reason Yan is the favorite is because even though he’s lost 2 of his last 5, both losses happened in championship bouts versus Aljamain Sterling.

O’Malley fought in a no contest versus Pedro Munhoz in his last. Sean is a great fighter but Petr is on a different level. Also, Yan will temper whatever advantage O’Malley has by getting inside of Sean’s reach. The favorite is the play.

UFC 280 Pick: Petr Yan

Aljamain Sterling vs. TJ Dillashaw

Bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling brings a 21-3 record and 7 fight win streak into this bout. Sterling beat Petr Yan to win the title. Then in the rematch, he bested Yan again.

Yan is a terrific fighter but Sterling might find it more difficult to beat veteran TJ Dillashaw on Saturday afternoon. Dillashaw shows 1 loss in his last 5, to well-regarded Henry Cejudo in 2019.

Last July Dillashaw beat Corey Sandhagen via split-decision. The layoff won’t help TJ’s chances. It could take a round or two but Sterling wins via submission.

UFC 280 Pick: Aljamain Sterling

Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev

It’s always tough to go against Nate Diaz. The 21-13 fighter is as legit as it gets. To put how fantastic Diaz’s career has been, consider he’s lost 13 bouts but he’s 4-2 via TKO or KO and 13-1 via submissions.

10 of Nate’s 13 losses have come via decision. That’s how incredible he’s been over the years. But with that being written, Diaz doesn’t have much shot versus Chimaev. Khamzat is 11-0 for a reason. The chalk wins the main event.

UFC 280 Pick: Charles Oliveira +160
