UFC 299 Main Card Preview

Peter Yan vs. Song Yadong

Chalk Peter Yan is going to have to step it up if he hopes to beat Song Yadong. Although Yan is the favorite, his form leaves much to be desired.

Yan will head into this bout a loser of 4-of-5. Yan’s last victory came versus Corey Sandhagen in 2021. Since then, Yan has dropped 3 straight. Granted, all 3 matches were against top competition, but Yan is supposed to be better than what he’s shown.

Song Yadong has won 4-of-5. For sure, Yadong hasn’t fought the same competition. However, Yadong is the form fighter. Back the dog to cash.

UFC 299 Pick: Song Yadong

Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena

Burns versus Maddalena is another fantastic, competitive match, on the UFC 299 main card. Burns has won 3-of-4. The thing about Burns is that he’s adept at both fighting standing up and on the mat.

Maddalena is the favorite because he hasn’t lost since 2016. Jack started his career losing 2 straight. Since then he’s rolled to 16 straight wins. But Maddalena has never fought someone close to Burns’ skill level. Gilbert gets it done.

UFC 299 Pick: Gilbert Burns

Kevin Holland vs. Michael Page

Page is a solid 21-2. The reason he’s the underdog in this is that he comes to UFC from Bellator. Bellator, though, is a great promotion where plenty of terrific mixed martial artists call home.

So we shouldn’t read too much into Michael Page’s move from Bellator to UFC. Kevin Holland is a solid fighter. But his form has gone south, losing 3-of-5. The odds make either playable. Page should be motivated to impress his new employer.

UFC 299 Pick: Michael Page

Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis

Popular MMA fighter Dustin Poirier returns to the Octagon on Saturday. Poirier is a +145 underdog versus Benoit Saint-Denis in what should be another fantastic matchup, leading to O’Malley against Vera.

The dog in this has lost 2-of-3. Both of Poirier’s loses came against two of the top fighters in the division, Charles Oliviera and Justin Gaethje.

Benoit Saint-Denis has a single loss on the record. Saint-Denis is flying high after 5 straight wins. This is a step-up, but the fave should get it done.

UFC 299 Pick: Benoit Saint-Denis

Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera // UFC Bantamweight Championship

The odds on O’Malley make the champ a play against. Sean can win this. Heck, he probably should beat Vera, but at -240, he’s tough to bet for sure.

The problem with backing O’Malley is that Vera has already proved he can beat Sean. If Marlon entered this in bad form, we’d write go against. But Vera has won 5-of-6 and is 8-0 via TKO/KO and 8-0 via submissions. The +195 make Marlon an overlay.

UFC 299 Pick: Marlon Vera
