UFC 300 Main Card Preview

Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage

The odds suggest Bo Nickal dominates Cody Brundage. However, a case can be made for Brundage to pull off the upset. After 3 straight losses, Brundage is on a 2-match winning streak with victories versus Jakob Malkoun and Zachary Reese.

Ah, but the win versus Malkoun came via disqualification, and the victory over Reese was in Reese’s first real UFC bout. Brundage isn’t at the same level he used to be, which is why Nickal is at -3000. If there’s a knockout prop, back that before going with Bo on the moneyline.

UFC 300 Pick: Bo Nickal

Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan

Oliveira versus Tsarukyan should be a fantastic bout. At one time, Charles Oliveira was the best in the lightweight division. He’s still one of the best. Charles is also in great form, having lost once in his last 5. In addition, the loss came against champ Islam Makhachev.

Tsarukyan is 21-3 and has won 4-of-5. The favorite in this has been on fire in his last 2, dominating Joaquim Silva and Beneil Dariush via knockouts. But although Tsarukyan should win, the odds make Oliveira playable. Take a swing on the underdog to get it done.

UFC 300 Pick: Charles Oliveira

Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway

Two potential future UFC hall of fame mixed martial artists throw down when Justin Gaethje takes on Max Holloway. The favorite in this is in great form, having won 3-of-4. The lone loss came against Charles Oliviera in 2022 when Oliviera was the best lightweight in the world.

Max Holloway has won 4-of-5. Holloway’s lone loss in his last 5 was against Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision. Volkanovski held the title for a long time after winning it form Holloway. This will be a close fight. So the odds difference is pronounced enough to make Max the pick.

UFC 300 Pick: Charles Oliveira

Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan // UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship

Since back to back losses to Rose Namajunas in 2021, champ Zhang Weili has been unstoppable. Weili beat Joanna Jederjezczyk via knockout, submitted Carla Esparza, and beat Amanda Lemos via decision.

Underdog Yan Xiaonan has also fought well. Xiaonan has won her last 2 bouts, a majority decision over Mackenzie Dern, and a first round knockout of legend Jessica Andrade.

Beating Andrade was nice, but Jessica isn’t the same mixed martial artist she used to be. Weili gets it done. Don’t be surprised if Zhang ends Yan’s night before the final bell.

UFC 300 Pick: Zhang Weili

Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill // UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

Pereira versus Hill has the look of a possible fight of the year. Much respect is going to Hill, who has dropped to a +125 underdog. There are reasons for the enthusiasm.

Hill is 12-1 overall and 7-1 via TKO/KO. He’s got a lightning fast left kick that he can raise with power all the way to his opponent’s head.

Pereira is 9-2-0. Alex upset Israel Adesanya in 2023. Adesanya won the rematch, but Pereira bounced back with 2 straight wins against Jan Blachowicz via split decision and knocking out Jiri Prochazka in the second round.

Pereira went up in class to beat Prochazka. So the fact he was a middleweight is no big deal. What is a big deal is Hill’s excellent footwork in the stand up. Hill has the tools to upset the favorite.

UFC 300 Pick: Zhang Weili
