Packers vs. Vikings 2022 NFL Week 1 Odds, Preview & Pick
There’s very little change in the pecking order over in the NFC North, as the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings remain the two teams to beat in the group. The Packers are hot off another MVP campaign from Aaron Rodgers, while the Vikings’ offense looks as potent as it has for the past couple of years but they’re now under a new coaching regime. Which team will draw the first divisional blood this Sunday?

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?
For the second consecutive season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took home the regular-season NFL MVP award in 2021 as his team finished 13-4 and clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Packers were upset in the divisional round by the San Francisco 49ers and missed out on a trip to the Super Bowl for the third straight year.
Entering the 2022 NFL season, Green Bay is still widely regarded as the best team in its division. However, Rodgers bid farewell to his favorite weapon in All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who’s now playing for the Raiders. A-Rod might not have a trusty wideout in his back pocket anymore, but at least he still has dependable, similarly-named running back Aaron Jones as a solid option out of the backfield. Jones might not have cracked the 1,000-yard rushing mark last season, but he finished with a new career-high of six receiving touchdowns.
The Packers also possess a stacked defense with stars across all levels, with De’Vondre Campbell, Rashan Gary, and Jaire Alexander all poised to have Pro Bowl-worthy seasons. It’ll be interesting to see if Green Bay made huge improvements on special teams, though, as it was this unit that caused the Packers an early exit from the postseason the last time out.
Why Bet on the Minnesota Vikings?
The eight-year odyssey under head coach Mike Zimmer is finally over, as the Minnesota Vikings look to bounce back from back-to-back losing campaigns with former Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell now running the show. O’Connell has been gifted with a talent-rich offensive roster, albeit one that tends to crack under pressure.
Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins made the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career in 2021, throwing for over 4,200 passing yards and at least 33 passing TDs in back-to-back years. Sensational wide receiver Justin Jefferson set new career-highs of 1,616 receiving yards and 10 TD catches in just his second year in the pros, while running back Dalvin Cook was relatively healthy and finished with over 1,100 rushing yards for the third straight year.
The Vikings’ defense, on the other hand, cost the teams plenty of contests last season. In turn, they spent four of their first five picks at the 2022 NFL Draft for pieces on defense, particularly their secondary. First-round selection and safety Lewis Cine will see plenty of snaps as a rookie, as well as second-rounder and cornerback Andrew Booth. Whether these two young stars are enough to turn the Vikes’ mediocre D around has yet to be determined.
Packers vs. Vikings Betting Trends
- The Packers went 5-4 on the road the previous regular season (SU/ATS).
- The Packers are 4-2 in the last seven matchups against Minnesota (SU/ATS).
- The totals went over in each of the last four meetings between these two division rivals.
- The Vikings went 5-3 at home last season (4-4 ATS).
- The Vikes are 2-5 in the last seven games as underdogs (3-4 ATS).
- The totals went over in all four of the most recent games played in Minneapolis.
Packers vs. Vikings Expert Betting Predictions
We expect this NFC North battle to be a display of firepower for both sides with the Vikings slightly looking better than the Packers with a limited passing attack. However, Green Bay’s defense comes through in the clutch once more to hand Minny yet another close defeat in the final possession of the game.
