Why Bet on the New England Patriots?
Hot off a tense divisional matchup are the New England Patriots, who came up short of upsetting the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday, 24-17. That leaves Bill Belichick’s Pats winless after two weeks, although they’ve lost to two strong Super Bowl contenders, the Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles, by just a single-scoring possession apiece.
After a solid Week 1 performance, quarterback Mac Jones fell back to Earth against the Fins, throwing for just 231 yards and a passing score with one interception while also getting sacked four times. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson found the end zone for New England’s other TD of the day but finished with just 50 rushing yards on 15 carries.
As a silver lining, the Patriots’ defense forced two Miami turnovers and kept Tua Tagovailoa to under 250 passing yards as well. The Pats just need a well-rounded performance in a single game and they have one of the best shots at righting the ship this week against a Jets squad that’s predicted to be in for a slow and steady downfall.
Why Bet on the New York Jets?
In the wake of the season-ending injury to starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets could not have asked for a worse opponent than the high-flying Dallas Cowboys. The Jets got dismantled by America’s Team last Sunday, 30-10, as the high from last week’s upset over the Bills has all but evaporated for Gang Green.
Zach Wilson proved once more why the loss of Rodgers is utterly unbearable. Wilson completed just 12 of his 17 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, and a whopping three picks. With New York playing catch-up for most of the contest, the running game was almost non-existent, with the team only gaining 64 yards on the ground and with stud back Breece Hall only getting nine carries for nine measly rushing yards.
Now comes what, on paper, looks like a winnable matchup for the Jets. However, there’s a reason why their slight underdogs odds-wise even with the home-field advantage: the Patriots have simply owned them for over half a decade. Then again, New York’s opportunistic defense, one of only six teams in the league with three or more interceptions for the season, may be able to bail them out despite their back-to-putrid offense.
Patriots vs. Jets Betting Trends
- New England is 1-3 in the last four road games (SU/ATS).
- The Pats have won 14 straight meetings against New York dating back to 2016 (11-3 ATS).
- The totals went over in five of New England’s last seven games on the road.
- New York is 4-3 in the last seven homestands (SU/ATS).
- The Jets are 1-3 in its last four outings against their AFC East rivals (2-2 ATS).
- The totals went under in four of the last five Jets home games.
Patriots vs. Jets Expert Betting Predictions
Considering that the Patriots are in much better shape than the Jets after Week 2, along with their dominance in this rivalry, the Pats should be able to get their first win of the season out of the way this weekend. New York is back in rough shape and the Pats have hung tight in their first two losing efforts, and we wouldn’t be surprised if New England wins this matchup by double digits.
