By Carlos Chacon

It doesn’t get any easier for the Vegas Golden Knights, who are currently in danger of missing the postseason for the first time in the franchise’s short but already impressive history. They’re set to host the Nashville Predators this Thursday night, with Nashville still doing relatively well themselves this current month. The Predators are coming off a loss, though, but can the Golden Knights capitalize on this fact?

Why Bet on the Nashville Predators?

There’s no time to rest for the Nashville Predators, who are still embroiled in a tight division battle with the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild for second place in the Central Division. The Predators took a huge blow by way of a 6-1 rout at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, putting them a point behind the Blues and a tie with the Wild in the standings to date.

That five-goal defeat to the Kings was a stark contrast to Nashville’s 6-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks the day prior. Then again, the Preds may have been gassed entering their game against LA as the second game of their back-to-back SoCal swing.

Nashville is currently second in the NHL with 49 power-play goals only behind the Central Division leaders the Colorado Avalanche (54). Six of team goals leader Filip Forsberg’s scores have come with the man advantage and should get good looks against a Golden Knights squad that ranks just 17th in the league with a 78.7% penalty kill percentage.

Why Bet on the Vegas Golden Knights?

After securing crucial wins over tough opponents in the Kings and the Florida Panthers, the Vegas Golden Knights are now on a two-game slide. What makes things worse is that those two defeats came against two of their division rivals in the Minnesota Wild on Monday and the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

As if that wasn’t enough insult to injury, Vegas was outscored 7-0 by the Wild and Jets in these two losses, marking the second time this season that the Knights have been shutout in back-to-back contests. Superstar Jonathan Marchessault (team-high 25 goals for the season) hasn’t found the back of the net in five straight starts and has just one goal in his last eight outings.

Although the Golden Knights fell to the Predators in their latest encounter, they only lost by a single goal and have still won four of their last six meetings overall. However, Vegas still needs to address its recent power outage, as their middling goaltending that’s allowing 3.03 goals on average to their opponents (17th in the NHL) is going to have a hard time bailing the team out without the usual firepower.

Predators vs. Golden Knights Expert Betting Predictions

Back-to-back shutouts leave little to be desired out of Vegas right now. However, The Golden Knights are a much better team at home and may have just gone through a rough patch on the road. The Predators aren’t exactly elite-level competition either, which makes this matchup more of a toss-up than what seems like a lopsided affair in favor of Nashville.
