Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Raiders got their first win of the season Sunday, 32-23 over Denver. Jacobs rushed 28 times for a career-high 144 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs’ 28 carries were his second-most in a game since being drafted No. 24 overall in 2019. It was Jacobs’ first two-touchdown game since Week 1 of last season. He also added five catches for 31 yards. The Silver and Black won the time of possession battle by nearly 10 minutes, which is also a testament to the dominant ground game. When Jacobs has a high volume of carries, it’s usually a great sign for the Raiders offense. The Silver and Black are 13-3 in games in which Jacobs has at least 20 carries.
Carr completed 21-of-34 passes for 188 scoreless yards. He absorbed two sacks and rushed seven times for 40 yards. Carr averaged just 5.5 YPA with his arm, funneling targets to Davante Adams at a 38% clip. Adams accounted for 101 of Carr’s 188 passing yards.
The Raiders have now scored on the opening drive in each of their four games this season. That makes them one of three teams in the NFL to do so. This is also the first time the Raiders have started the season with opening drive scores in four straight games since 2001.
No. 2 wide receiver Hunter Renfrow has missed the past two games but returned to practice Wednesday. The fact that Renfrow will be working out in a non-contact jersey does not necessarily mean he will play against the Chiefs, but without continued progress it’s a good sign he can be ready for the game, especially with an extra day rest. Renfrow had 10 catches in the first two games.
The Raiders had three other key players who either missed the Denver game or were hurt in it. They are linebacker Denzel Perryman (concussion), cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (knee) and tight end Foster Moreau (knee). Still no word on their status.
Following Week 4, the Raiders’ offense ranks 13th in the league in total offense (356.3 yards per game), 14th in passing (243.3 ypg), 14th in rushing (113.0 ypg) and 10th in points (24.0 ppg). Defensively, the Raiders rank 22nd in total defense (357.0 ypg), 22nd in passing (253.8 ypg), 10th in rushing (103.3 ypg) and tied for 23rd in points allowed (25.0 ppg).
Why Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?
Last year, the Chiefs easily won both meetings. The first was in Las Vegas and was 41-14. Patrick Mahomes threw five TD passes and finished 35 for 50 for 406 yards. The Raiders were held to 82 yards in the first half, their fewest in a home game in eight years, and went 1 for 9 on third downs.
The second game in Kansas City was 48-9. Tyrann Mathieu had an interception and fumble recovery, Mike Hughes forced two fumbles and returned another 23 yards for a touchdown, and the Chiefs built a 35-0 first-half lead. Derek Gore’s 51-yard TD run with 7:19 left in the fourth quarter allowed Kansas City to eclipse the largest margin of victory in a series that began in 1960 and has been played 126 times. The previous record was 35 points in 1964.
Derek Carr had 266 yards passing for the Raiders, much of it going to Hunter Renfrow, who caught 13 of 14 targets for 117 yards and a score. But Renfrow also had one of the Raiders’ four fumbles, as did Josh Jacobs, who was held to 24 yards rushing.
Each of the past four meetings between these division rivals have gone over the total, with three of those games blowing past the total by at least nine points. Also in three of those games: A result that is at least 18.5 different from the spread.
The Chiefs rank tied for fourth in total offense (384.8 ypg), seventh in passing (267.8 ypg), 11th in rushing (117.0 ypg) and second in points (32.3 ppg). Defensively, the Chiefs rank 13th in total defense (329.5 ypg), 27th in passing (263.8 ypg), first in rushing (65.8 ypg) and tied for 20th in points allowed (24.0 ppg).
