Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Las Vegas Raiders saw their brief two-game win streak come to an end in Week 7 after they fell to the similarly short-handed Bears in Chicago, 30-12. Vegas’ Jimmy Garoppolo missed this contest due to a back injury and the team cannot wait for their starting QB to return to action and right the Silver and Black’s ship.
Veteran backup Brian Hoyer was far from his former prime, completing just 17 of 32 passes for 129 yards and a pair of interceptions. In turn, the Raiders’ running game was also stifled to just 39 rushing yards on 14 carries as the passing game held them back early on. It just goes to show how important Garoppolo is for Las Vegas’ offense, as neither Hoyer nor rookie Aidan O’Connell was serviceable as Jimmy G’s relievers.
Even worse news for the Raiders is their defense has yet to improve as well, even regressing to the point of surrendering three touchdowns to Chicago’s own rookie QB Tyson Bagent. Vegas is currently ranked fifth against the pass, allowing just an average of 187.4 passing yards per game to their opponents this season. Then again, the team has a bottom-10 rushing defense, which pretty much evens out to an average stop unit that the Lions could very well expose on Monday night.
Why Bet on the Detroit Lions?
Suffering an even worse defeat this past weekend are the Detroit Lions, who were routed by the Baltimore Ravens in their Week 7 battle between one-loss teams, 38-6. Even with that discouraging loss, though, Detroit still has a rather comfortable two-game lead for the top spot in the NFC North standings to date.
The tandem of Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown tried their best to overcome Baltimore’s offensive onslaught. However, Goff went 33-for-53 for 284 passing yards without a score and also threw a pick. St. Brown remains Detroit’s best offensive weapon, finishing with 13 catches for 102 receiving yards in a losing effort. And even with starting running back David Montgomery not back in the fold yet, the team still averaged six yards per carry in 14 rushing attempts against the Ravens.
What’s more concerning for the Lions is that their defense looked out of sync facing one of the better teams in the league. They haven’t been challenged by a top offensive unit since their Week 1 win over the Chiefs, and the Ravens certainly gave Dan Campbell’s gang a wake-up call. Thankfully, this Lions stop unit will be facing an easier foe in Week 8 in hopes of securing their first playoff berth in seven seasons.

Raiders vs. Lions Expert Betting Predictions
Despite losing embarrassingly last week, Detroit is still regarded as a heavy home favorite to win its Week 8 matchup against Vegas. But with the Lions’ defense recently underperforming, perhaps the right call would be to pick the Raiders to cover the point spread, especially if Garoppolo is cleared to play on Monday night.
