Rudy Gobert NBA Futures Odds and Timberwolves Outlook

By Carlos Chacon

Rudy Gobert has grown frustrated with the Utah Jazz organization, whereas the Minnesota Timberwolves lacked the necessary defense to make a deeper playoff run this past season. In turn, these two teams made a deal earlier this week that appears to be a perfect fit for the parties involved. What does Gobert’s arrival in Minny mean for the Wolves?

Nitrobetting is ready to dish out some timely assists to our bettors all throughout the 2022 NBA offseason and beyond. This time, let’s know more about the Minnesota Timberwolves’ top offseason acquisition in Rudy Gobert, as well as the Timberwolves’ latest odds to win the 2022-23 NBA championship following Gobert’s arrival.

Breaking Down Rudy Gobert’s Signing With the Minnesota Timberwolves

Thanks to a potent offense, the Timberwolves reached the playoffs last season for just the second time since 2004. However, it was clear that Minnesota was lacking defensively, allowing the seventh-most points on average to opponents in the regular season (113.3 PAPG).

The Wolves took their defensive deficiencies at heart and instantly completed a trade for three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz in exchange for Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and fan-favorite journeyman Patrick Beverley, along with their first-overall pick at the 2022 NBA Draft.

Gobert gives Minnesota the interior presence the team sorely lacked in the postseason. The six-time NBA All-Defensive First-Team selection is also battle-hardened as they come, having made the playoffs in six straight seasons with the Jazz to date. With Gobert now patrolling the paint, Wolves franchise cornerstone Karl-Anthony Towns now has more space to operate from the perimeter on offense without having to compromise his team’s defense down low in transition.

No Blues for the Jazz, Either

With Gobert’s departure now made official, the Jazz are no doubt all in with building their roster around All-Star Donovan Mitchell. While the players involved in the trade package for Gobert are far from superstars, they’ll make for great trade assets this offseason and beyond.

Utah amassed a whopping four first-round picks from Minnesota in that monster deal, with one of those picks having been spent on Auburn’s Walker Kessler already with what would’ve been the Wolves’ 22nd-overall pick, Kessler, a natural seven-footer, was named the 2022 Naismith College Defensive Player of the Year and will serve as a suitable replacement for Gobert as Utah’s new starting center.

Although it’s sad to see the Rudy Gobert/Quin Snyder era come to an end in Salt Lake, the future is still very bright for the Jazz. A staggering amount of first-rounders should give them plenty of flexibility as they retool and draft around their one true superstar in Mitchell. Given the Jazz organization’s success almost immediately after the lengthy reign of Jerry Sloan, it’s safe to assume that they’ll remain postseason contenders even with the loss of their star big man.
