Why Bet on the New Orleans Saints?
The up-and-down 2021 season continues for the New Orleans Saints. Thankfully, Sean Payton and his boys were recharged enough from their Week 5 bye to secure a huge 33-22 road victory over the Washington Football Team this past Sunday to get back over the .500 mark at 3-2.
The good Jameis Winston came out to play this past week, as the often-ridiculed former first-overall pick threw four touchdown passes against a now-porous Washington defense. That scoring explosion did not come with its setbacks, though, as Winston completed just half of his 30 passes while also throwing a pick. On the bright side, stud running back Alvin Kamara finally found the end zone for the first time this season, as Kamara finished with 71 rushing yards on 16 carries. What needs to be fixed, however, is the Saints’ tendency to give up tons of yardage on defense.
Washington piled up 373 yards of offense last Sunday; four more yards than New Orleans’ total output that afternoon. The Seahawks may not have their starting QB under center for the upcoming MNF clash, but the fact that Washington outgained the Saints on offense is still a cause for concern.
Why Bet on the Seattle Seahawks?
All things considered, the Seattle Seahawks have stayed relatively competitive despite the finger injury to star quarterback Russell Wilson. Seattle got a solid effort from backup QB Geno Smith in Week 7, as the eight-year veteran went 23-of-32 for 209 passing yards and a passing TD this past Sunday.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for the Seahawks to steal a road win, as the Pittsburgh Steelers hung on to a 23-20 overtime victory in Heinz Field. It was also Smith who committed the biggest blunder of the game for Seattle, as the former Jets starter was strip-sacked by Pittsburgh’s T.J Watt to set up the Steelers’ game-winning field goal in OT.
With questionable play under center, it’s up to Pete Carroll’s once-revered defense to aid Smith’s cause on the other side of the ball. That’s easier said than done, though, as the Seahawks are allowing a league-worst 433.2 yards of offense per game to opponents this season. Great ball protection has kept them in games, though, as they’re still tied with the Raiders for the least amount of turnovers this season with just four giveaways.
Saints vs. Seahawks Betting Trends
- The Saints are 8-3 on the road since the start of the previous season, excluding the playoffs (7-4 ATS).
- The Saints are 2-3 in their last five games against Seattle (3-2 ATS), but did win each of the last two meetings.
- The totals have gone under in four of New Orleans’ six games this season thus far.
- The Seahawks are 2-3 in their last five regular-season home games (SU/ATS).
- The Seahawks have won four straight contests against NFC South opponents (2-1-1 ATS).
- The totals went under in all but one of Seattle’s five home games that we touched upon earlier.
Saints vs. Seahawks Expert Betting Predictions
The Saints and Seahawks have been involved in close battles over the past decade, as four of their last five meetings were each decided by no more than a single scoring possession. And while Seattle has looked relatively inept without Wilson running the show, the team’s valiant effort on the road this past week still warrants a little more confidence that the Seahawks can turn things around this Monday night. It’s also worth noting that the Saints have yet to put back-to-back wins together this season, even though Week 7 is the best time for Sean Payton’s gang to do so with their favorable matchup ahead.
