The Belgian veteran won two matches apiece in the two grass-court tournaments leading up to Wimbledon, including a victory over top-30 player Elise Mertens.

Flipkens now has a solid 16-11 record at Wimbledon in singles play to date; by far her best record amongst all four Grand Slam tournaments. Her strongest push for a Grand Slam title also came in Wimby back in 2013, wherein she would finish with a career-best semifinal showing at a Grand Slam event that she would not be able to replicate elsewhere for the nest nine years.
