TCU Horned Frogs 2023 Straight-Up Overview

TCU returns 11 starters from last season’s College Football Playoff team. Of the 11 starters, 8 are on defense, which means the big question regarding the 2023 TCU Horned Frogs is whether the offense will repeat the magic displayed in 2022.

Before getting hurt in TCU’s season opener, Chandler Morris had beaten Heisman Trophy Finalist Max Duggan for the starting quarterback position. Morris will get the start this season, but he won’t have the same group of recievers to pass the football, or the same group of running backs to hand the ball off too.

Senior Savion Williams replaces Quenten Johnson as the Horned Frogs’ top WR. Williams should be okay if Morris has enough time to get the ball to him, which is the real reason to believe TCU struggles this season.

The offensive line starts two transfers, Coltin Deery and Willis Patrick. TCU’s offensive line was decent in 2022, but not dominant. Many times during a game, Duggan had to improvise. If Morris doesn’t have the same improvisational skills that Duggan possesses, things could go south for the offense in a hurry.

If the offensive line gels, TCU’s rushing attack could surprise. Trey Sanders was a 5-star recruit. Sanders transfers from Alabama. The talent is there. Trey didn’t get a chance rushing for the Crimson Tide.

The defense returns 8-of-11 starters. Right cornerback Avery Helm transfers from Florida. So we know Helm can play. The defense was good last season. It could be better this season.

The schedule gives the Horned Frogs a shot to finish 7-5 or 8-4. Early in the season, it will look as if the Frogs are going to repeat their 2023. TCU should go undefeated in their first 6 games against: Colorado, Nicholls State, at Houston, SMU, West Virginia, and at a scandal-plague Iowa State Cyclone squad.

The back end of the schedule is loaded. The Horned Frogs could lose 4-of-5 or even 5-of-6 in games versus BYU, at Kansas State, at Texas Tech, versus Texas, versus Baylor, and at Oklahoma.

Sonny Dykes is one of the top coaches in the country. He will ensure the Horned Frogs win at least 2 of their final 6 matchups. TCU loses to Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas to finish with an 8-4 record.

TCU Horned Frogs 2023 Against the Spread Overview

Oddsmakers could struggle to set legit lines on TCU games all season. The Horned Frogs may get over played early in the season, though.

Then, in the back half, the Frogs should definitely get overplayed if they start the season going 6-0 SU. So the ATS record will be a losing 5-7.

TCU Horned Frogs 2023 Over/Under Overview

Dykes’ offense will score points. But, again, oddsmakers may set tough totals for the over to find success. Not only that, but TCU's defense could be better this season.

Oddsmakers are often better at setting over under totals than they are at setting ATS lines. The Frogs will end the season with a 6-6 over to under record.

TCU Horned Frogs 2023 Over/Under Record Prediction: 10-7
