Why Bet on the Houston Texans?
The total freefall of the Houston Texans continues, as they’ve now lost six straight games since winning their home opener against their equally terrible division rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars. But if there’s a silver lining to Houston’s 38-23 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9, it’s that the team scored in double digits for the first time since Week 5 and just the third time all season.
Then again, all 22 of the Texans’ points came in garbage time with the Rams up 38-0 by the end of the third quarter. Davis Mills salvaged what would’ve been another disastrous day under center, throwing two late touchdown passes and finishing with 310 yards on 29-of-38 passing to go with an interception.
Reinforcements are on their way in Houston, as the team’s original starting quarterback in Tyrod Taylor is expected to return from a hamstring injury this week. Taylor led the Texans to their only win of the season against the aforementioned Jaguars in Week 1, going an efficient 21-of-33 for 291 passing yards, two TDs, and not one turnover. With Houston’s defense still being a sieve, a terrific day from Taylor could very well be enough to put the team out of its funk in a winnable matchup against Miami.
Why Bet on the Miami Dolphins?
For one half of Week 9’s game against the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins appeared in line to exact some revenge from their shutout loss to their AFC East rivals. But alas; the Bills woke up in the second half of the contest to come away with a 26-11 home win to sweep their season series against 1-and-7 Miami.
Like the Texans, the Dolphins’ lone victory came in Week 1, and it was a 17-16 nailbiter at that. Although three of their next six defeats were each decided by three points or less, the other four losses were all total beatdowns. Second-year QB Tua Tagovailoa has dialled up more passes of late but to lackluster results. Tagovailoa completed 21 of 39 passes for just 205 against Buffalo whilst failing to connect with a Miami receiver in the end zone and also throwing his fifth pick of the season.
The NFL trade deadline has come and gone without the Fins finalizing a widely anticipated deal for Deshaun Watson. With the Watson rumors put to rest, perhaps Tua will regain some of his lost confidence to give Miami’s offense a much-needed boost. The Dolphins’ defense is all but a lost cause at this point, as their stop unit now ranks dead last in yards allowed (406.9 YAPG) and fourth-worst in points allowed (29.6 PAPG).
Texans vs. Dolphins Betting Trends
- The Texans are winless in the last six road games (2-4 ATS).
- The Texans are actually 8-1 against Miami since 2003 (6-3 ATS).
- The totals went under in all but one of Houston’s last six road games.
- The Dolphins are 1-4 in the last five home games (2-3 ATS).
- The Dolphins are 0-3 this season in games wherein they were favored to win (SU/ATS).
- The totals went over in four of Miami’s last six games in general.
Texans vs. Dolphins Expert Betting Predictions
The Texans and the Dolphins have both been disappointing, to say the least, with the winner of Week 9’s game even hurting their chances of getting a high draft pick in the next NFL Draft. That being said, betting on the over/under could be a better play for this matchup considering that both offenses have been putrid on most occasions.
