The American Express 2023 tournament has undergone many name changes over the years since its inception in 1960. This is the fourth year that American Express has sponsored the event, which is commonly referred to as the Desert Classic or the Bob Hope Classic based on previous runs of the tournament.

A huge prize purse worth $8 million is at stake this week at La Quinta. That’s up from the $7.6 million total payout from last season; a $400,000 increase. In turn, The American Express is now up to par with most of the non-major tournaments on the PGA TOUR calendar having no less than $8 million in winnings at stake.

Here’s how the $8 million prize money for each of the top 10 finishers of The American Express 2023 in California will be distributed:

  • 1st Place: $1,440,000
  • 2nd Place: $864,000
