Amanda Lemos vs. Zhang Weili

Two-time Women’s Strawweight champion Zhang Weili is officially back terrorizing the division, as seen in her second-round submission victory over Carla Esparza for the belt last November. Outside back-to-back losses to Rose Namajunas, Zhang has yet to lose to another woman in the Octagon.

The incumbent champ’s reign could very well be short-lived, though, as 36-year-old Brazilian Amanda Lemos approaches. Since 2019, Lemos has gone 7-1 in the UFC, with three of those wins being via knockout including her recent victory over Marina Rodriguez late last year. Both Lemos and Zhang are entering their fight as fresh as ever, and the former does have more of an explosive punch than the more technical form of the latter. That said, Lemos’ KO potential makes her a solid underdog pick to become the next queen of the strawweight ranks.

Pedro Munhoz vs. Marlon Vera

The other bantamweight fight outside of the main event between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley is also going to be a banger, as No. 6-ranked Marlon Vera takes on No. 10 Pedro Munhoz. This Latin American showdown currently favors Vera, but “Chito” did just lose a split-decision bout to Corey Sandhagen the last time he was in the ring to snap his four-fight win streak.

Meanwhile, Munhoz got back on track following his no-contest outing against the aforementioned O’Malley last year by pulling off a unanimous-decision win over Chris Gutierrez earlier this April. Although Munhoz has not fared well against some of the biggest names in the UFC such as Sterling, Dominick Cruz, Jose Aldo, and Frankie Edgar, his next opponent in Vera isn’t a household name just yet, which leaves the door open for “The Young Punisher” to beat his underdog odds this weekend.

UFC 292 Betting Pick: Pedro Munhoz

Chris Weidman vs. Brad Tavares

Capping off the preliminary card of UFC 292 is a clash between two former Octagon standouts Chris Weidman and Brad Tavares, who’ve both been on a downward spiral of late. Weidman’s case is more fascinating, as he makes his return from the leg injury he suffered during his losing match against Uriah Hall back in April of 2021.

As a former middleweight champion, it’s quite surprising to see the East Coast grappler’s underdog odds be as convincing as it is. To be fair, he is already 39 years of age and well past his prime. Then again, Tavares hasn’t been in terrific condition either, as the pride of Hawaii has gone just won two of his last six fights since the middle of 2018, including back-to-back losses to Dricus du Plessis and Bruno Silva, with Silva knocking him out in the opening round this spring. That said, this is Weidman’s best shot at proving he belongs in the favorite conversation and is no longer a perennial underdog as Tavares has just as little momentum as the former middleweight champ entering Saturday’s fight.
