Vettori vs. Holland Preview

Martin Vettori

  • MMA Record: 16-4-1

Born in Italy, Vettori continues to hone his skills with Stabile Fight Teams and Kings MMA. He has been fighting professionally since 2011, and he works alongside Romulo Barral, Rafael Cordeiro, and Corey Beasley. At 27-years old, Vettori holds the sixth-best middleweight ranking in this flourishing division.

Marvin Vettori is yet to lose a fight since his split-decision loss to Israel Adesanya, who now holds the middleweight title. His performance then was underwhelming for some, and he did not do enough to earn the judge’s points. But this time around, he’s a better fighter than he was 3 years ago.

Since the loss, he went on to secure back-to-back unanimous decisions against Cezar Ferriera and Andrew Sanchez. This was followed by a submission win over Karl Roberson that earned him a performance of the night award. His last win came in the form of another unanimous decision that ended Jack Hermansson’s win streak.

Kevin Holland

  • MMA Record: 21-6-0

In 2015, Holland Made his debut in professional MMA. Today, he trains with the Phalanx MMA Academy and continues to work on his kung fu and Brazilian jiu-jitsu under the supervision of Travis Lutter. As of this writing, Holland is ranked 10th in the middleweight division of the UFC.

Holland had an amazing 2020, tying the record for most fights in one calendar year with five to his name. More than that, he won all five fights, including a quick first-round knockout over middleweight icon Jacare Souza. But 2021 hasn’t been the best for the American fighter, losing to Derek Brunson.

Darren Till suffering an injury opened a door to Kevin Holland, who seeks to redeem his previous loss. This is an opportunity for Holland to get back on track and put his skills to the test despite the time constraints.

UFC Vegas 23 Expert Betting Predictions

Vettori never stepped into the spotlight of the UFC, until recently, when everyone recognized his versatility. His last performance against Jack Hermansson showcased a skillful and intense performance, which we wish to see more of in this upcoming UFC Fight Night.

The Italian composed a strategic plan in his match against Hermansson, avoiding any disadvantage on the ground and taking control. He does not have the strongest of punches or the best wrestling, but he does well in all aspects of the game and dictating the pace, making him a well-rounded fighter.

On the other hand, Holland, was a fight away from a title shot this year. However, his loss to Brunson knocked him back a few squares. If he can pull off a win here and avoid getting planted on his back, he can continue his journey to a title fight. But, overcoming the Vettori challenge will not be an easy task for the American, especially after a loss in March.
