UFC 298 Main Card Preview

Anthony Hernandez vs. Roman Kopylov

UFC 298’s main card kicks off with a fantastic, competitive matchup between a couple of 2 loss fighters. Roman Kopylov is 12-2 while Anthony Hernandez is 11-2.

Both in decent form, with favored Hernandez winning 4 straight and Kopylov also taking 4 straight. The difference between the two might be power, where Roman is 11-0 via technical and straight up knockout. The odds make Kopylov more than playable.

UFC 298 Pick: Roman Kopylov

Merab Dvalishvili vs. Henry Cejudo

Two veterans who can still throw butt heads on Saturday night when the great Henry Cejudo battles the equally great Merab Dvalishvili.

Dvalishvili has a 2 inches advantage, which is one of the reasons he’s the favorite. Also, Merab hasn’t lost since 2018, winning 9 straight.

Cejudo lost his last, but it was in a championship bout versus Aljamain Sterling. Henry gave up 4 inches in height and still forced a decision. Also, it was Hendry’s first bout since 2020. Give Cejudo a shot to get back on the winning track. Plus, Dvalishvili is due for a loss.

UFC 298 Pick: Henry Cejudo

Geoff Neal vs. Ian Garry

Geoff Neal is a warrior. Although Neal has lost 3-of-5 in his last form cycle, he keeps showing up and trying his best.

On Saturday, Neal doesn’t have much chance against 13-0 Ian Garry. Garry has excellent length and power. He’s 7-0 via technical and straight up knockout. If Neal tries to get close, Garry will use his straight punching ability to land power shots. Garry ends this early.

UFC 298 Pick: Ian Garry

Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa

Underdog Costa had been on a losing streak. Costa fell to Israel Adesanya in 2020. Then in his next bout in 2021, Marvin Vettori handed Costa a unanimous decision loss.

In his last, Costa beat Luke Rockhold via unanimous decision. This is a step up from Rockhold because Robert Whittaker’s last 2 losses have come against two of the best in the division, Adesanya and champ Dricus Du Plessis. The chalk takes this.

UFC 298 Pick: Robert Whittaker

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria // UFC Featherweight Title

The line opened Topuria -125 and Volkanovski -115. Already, the odds have flipped so that Topuria is the slight underdog.

Volkanovski is a beast. Alexander’s last 2 losses have come in championship bouts against lightweight titlist Islam Makhachev. So Volka had to go up in weight to take on the fantastic Makhachev.

No wonder he lost. Volkanovski won’t get by Topuria so easily, though. The 27-year-old Georgian is 14-0 and 8-0 via submissions. Volka gives up 8 years to Topuria. The slight dog barks.

UFC 298 Pick: Leon Edwards
