It’s yet another strong Grand Slam showing for Marketa Vondrousova, who’s hot off her unprecedented Wimbledon title run as the only unseeded champion of the English tournament in the Open era. The 24-year-old Czech now has back-to-back Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances for the first time in her career as well.

Vondrousova won all three of her first matches at this year’s US Open in straight sets but did slow down a bit in the fourth round. This is Keys’ third time reaching the US Open quarterfinal. The 28-year-old Illinois native had a strong stretch in this Grand Slam between 2017 and 2018, reaching the final round in the former and the semifinal stage in the latter. To date, her record in Grand Slam events held on grass stands at 53-21 for a win percentage of over 70 percent.

With more experience in the US Open and Grand Slam events in general, Keys gets the slight nod as the favorite to win her upcoming matchup against Vondrousova despite being the lower-seeded entry. After all, the New York crowd will be behind her and this virtual home-court advantage may just inspire Keys to have another spirited campaign in Flushing Meadows.

It doesn’t get any closer than a perennial US Open contender in Keys and one of the hottest female tennis players around in Vondrousova. Despite playing in front of her fellow countrymen, Keys might likely succumb to the overall composure and momentum that Vondrousova is having.
