Back in July, the Golden State Warriors traded guard Jordan Poole to Washington along with a few other throw-ins and some draft picks for Chris Paul. Poole once was considered a key part of the Warriors’ future but fell out of favor. The Dubs and Wizards finish their season series against one another Tuesday in D.C.

Why Bet on the Golden State Warriors?

The Warriors eye the sweep after beating the Wizards 129-118 on Dec. 22 in San Francisco. Steph Curry made eight three-pointers on the way to 30 points along with seven assists. Jonathan Kuminga connected on his first six from the field and finished with 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Klay Thompson had 20 points with four 3s. Andrew Wiggins was out for the Dubs.

Poole made the first basket of the game following a video tribute with highlights on the big screen at Chase Center and finished with 25 points on 7-for-21 shooting but just 3 of 12 on 3s. Poole was a key contributor of the Warriors team that won the 2023 NBA championship, averaging a single-season career-high 20.4 points during the regular season and 170 points during the NBA Playoffs.

The Warriors come off a 119-103 home loss to Denver on Sunday to see their three-game winning streak snapped. Nikola Jokic had 32 points, 16 rebounds and 16 assists for his third straight triple-double and 18th of the season in the Nuggets’ seventh consecutive victory against the Warriors and also their fifth in a row on Golden State’s home floor since a 113-102 defeat on March 10, 2022. The last opponent to beat the Warriors seven or more times in a row was the Grizzlies’ 11 straight from November 2010 to November 2013.

“I thought we had two or three offensive possessions where we didn’t get organized, and we got stagnant,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “And that hurt our flow. We were in a good rhythm until then and the pace slowed down. So we needed to get better organized offensively. And then they hit some tough shots.”

Curry shot 6-of-19 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line to finish with 20 points. He made just one of his 10 three-point attempts, his worst effort since going 0-of-9 in a January 7 loss to the Raptors. Curry (23,180 career points) passed Dwyane Wade (23,165) and Adrian Dantley (23,177) to move from 33rd to 31st on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Thompson had 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting. He has scored in double figures in five of the last six games (18.7 ppg in that span). Is averaging 18.5 points (45.6 FG%, 42.1 3P%, 6-6 FT), 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists in 27.1 minutes per game in the last four games off the bench. Brandin Podziemski, who has replaced Thompson in the starting lineup, has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games (12.1 ppg in that span). Among all players, Podziemski leads in most charges drawn (32) this season. Among rookies, ranked third in assists, fifth in rebounding, ninth in scoring, eighth in steals, seventh in minutes, 10th in 3-point field goal percentage.

The Warriors have won six of their last seven road games, including their last five, the longest road winning streak of the season. The last time the Warriors won five road games in a row was in 2018-19 when they had an 11-game road winning streak (Dec. 29, 2018 – Feb. 8, 2019). The Warriors have won 10 of the last 13 matchups against the Wizards in Washington.

The recent move to the bench has awakened something in Poole that’s been dormant all season – the ability to play competent basketball. In three games as a reserve, Washington’s $128 million-dollar man has averaged 23.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.7 triples across 30 minutes.

Kyle Kuzma had 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists. He is one of 12 players in the NBA to average 21+ points, 6+ rebounds and 4+ assists per game this season. Kuzma is averaging career-highs in points (22.0 ppg), assists (4.1 apg) and field goal percentage (.456).

Washington played Sunday without forwards Deni Avdija, Corey Kispert and Isaiah Livers due to injury. Avdija had been in the midst of a stellar February, posting five games with 20-plus points and three with double-digit rebounds. Overall, Avdija is shooting the ball at a career-best .513 clip this season and averaging single-season highs in points (13.6) and assists (3.7) per game.

The Wizards have scored 110+ points in 11-straight games and 100+ points in 15-straight games against the Warriors. A total of 10 of the past 15 contests between these two teams have been decided by single digits, with the Wizards recording a 4-6 record in those games.
