Why the Celtics Will Beat the Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals
The Boston Celtics advance to the 2022 NBA Finals after an intense seven-game skirmish with the Miami Heat. The series went down the wire, with road wins happening in succession. It was arguably one of the most unpredictable matchups of the playoffs and supplied us with endless basketball and betting action.
Unlike the Warriors, the Celtics’ run to the last stage of the playoffs featured several variables. After pulling off the only sweep in the tournament which saw the favored Brooklyn Nets make an early exit, the Celtics had to face the Milwaukee Bucks. The series stretched to Game 7, with the Celtics pulling off a comfortable 109-81 victory over the defending champions.
They started slowly into the season and finished as the second-best Eastern Conference team heading into the playoffs. Nevertheless, the tireless runs paid off for the Celtics as they now face the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals.
Now that the matchup is set, Nitrobetting looks at the elements that could help the Celtics secure its first NBA Championship after 18 years.

A worthy competitor against Steph Curry
While both sides have stacked lineups, fans look forward to the battle between Warriors star guard Stephen Curry and the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum. The 24-year-old Tatum is anticipated to be one of the league’s faces once the likes of LeBron James and Curry retire. He has a promising career ahead of him and is off to a good start this season. He made the All-NBA first team this season, was a three-time NBA All-star, and bagged the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award earlier.
Tatum might lack experience in this stage of the playoffs, but he’s off to a great start following great performances in the first and second rounds. We’ve yet to see a game-long explosion from the forward and his momentum suggests that he is primed for another great series against the Warriors. He elevated his game to a new level, and once more in the playoffs when he was the better player over Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and even the relentless Jimmy Butler.
Of course, there are hints of inconsistency for the star forward this season. He did post a 46-point game against the Bucks but featured multiple games with five or more turnovers. If Tatum maintains a dependable pace against the Dubs, expect the Celtics to keep the games close.
The Boston Celtics is a well-oiled machine
It’s impressive how the first-year head coach Ime Udoka kept his squad healthy throughout the season. The impressive balance between the players is what makes the Celtics worthy of a Finals spot. This is not just a battle between the starting five. Both sides have reliable pieces that could take the helm at any time.
Al Horford is one of the best examples of this. The 35-year-old exploded for double-digit games multiple times. Most would overlook his presence on the floor given his age and athletic abilities, however, Horford proved why he deserves more floor time in the playoffs. His experience in pro basketball pays dividends for Boston. Assuming he stays healthy in series, he can play a solid scorer and rim protector alongside Robert Williams III. Meanwhile, Grand Williams can play big if called upon together with Daniel Theis. Boston can force the mismatch and push the Warriors away from the small-ball approach.
The Celtics have no major injuries leading up to the game, which means Ime Udoka can utilize his squad and come in strong on the road.
The Warriors’ kryptonite
The Celtics are 3-1 in their last four games against the Warriors. They know how to play against the Dubs and do it very well. If the team can take this to the playoff level, they are more than capable of keeping the strong run going.
Having a strong road record in their previous series sets off the Warriors’ alarm. The Celtics pulled off multiple road victories in the playoffs to secure a spot in the Finals. These results go against percentages. A home team wins Game 7 of a series over 70% of the time, and the Celtics just defied the odds. Boston has not lost two consecutive games in the playoffs, and this could be the biggest threat the Warriors face this postseason.
