The City that Doesn’t Want A Postseason Sleep
Although the New York Rangers are currently (+132) underdogs to win Game 7 against the Hurricanes, there’s more than enough reason to believe that they have one more elimination-game victory up their sleeves. Whereas Carolina is 0-6 on the road this postseason, New York at least has one road victory and it being a huge one; a Game 6 win over Pittsburgh to force a Game 7 back to the Big Apple. The Rangers even Clawed their way out of a 3-1 series hole against the Penguins in the first round at that, so their tenacity in high-pressure situations cannot be ignored.
Rangers Locked and on Point
The Edmonton Oilers’ tandem of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl may be grabbing all the headlines this postseason, but it would be a shame if the Rangers’ own one-two punch of Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox don’t get the recognition they deserve. Zibanejad and Fox have combined for 32 points already, by far the best pairing of teammates in the postseason only behind Edmonton’s. Not to mention that former All-Star Artemi Panarin is having a nice bounce-back season and is a decent threat on offense opposite of Zibanejad.
Igor is Alive!
Things looked quite shaky in the first round for Igor Shesterkin, who lead the NHL in the regular season with his dazzling 2.07 goals-against average but struggled against the Penguins early on. Thankfully, the standout Russian goalie turned things around just in time, allowing no more than two goals in five of his six starts against the Hurricanes in the series. Shesterkin’s reflexes are still crisp as they were in the regular-season campaign as seen in his amazing Game 6 performance (37 saves), and it’s up to New York’s offense to give their 26-year-old netminder all the help, hopefully with an early lead in Game 7 to work with and build even more confidence off of.
