Why the Carolina Hurricanes Will Win Game 7 vs. Rangers

Home Sweet Home

There’s one main reason why the Carolina Hurricanes are (-156) favorites to win Game 7, and that’s simply because they have the home-ice advantage. In all six games of their conference semifinals series against the Rangers, the home team ended up winning each of those bouts. By the way, this was the exact same scenario in Carolina’s first-round series against the Bruins, which also saw the team take all four games played in Raleigh.

The Antti-Hero

Much of the Hurricanes’ success this season can be attributed to their stellar goaltending, particularly from undrafted wonder Antti Ranta. They led the league in the regular season with a 2.44 goals-against average, which earned Ranta his first-ever NHL hardware with the William Jennings Trophy. The Finnish netminder also had a hand in each of his team’s wins in the playoffs, with Ranta ceding just a single goal to his opponents in five of his six full-time starts in those wins this postseason, including a superb shut-out of the Rangers in Game 2.

The Calm Before the Storm?

Give a ton of credit to New York’s own defense at containing Carolina’s attack. The Hurricanes have scored more than two goals in just one of their six meetings against the Rangers thus far after having three separate five-goal outings that led to three huge wins over Boston in the earlier round. Between Teuvo Teravainen, Sebastian Aho, Vincent Trocheck, and Tony DeAngelo, the Rangers will still have their hands full trying to stop Carolina’s balanced offense that gets supercharged when playing in front of their home crowd.
