Why Bet on the UCLA Bruins?

Football fans were treated to a shootout in the Rose Bowl in Week 3 between the UCLA Bruins and the Fresno State Bulldogs. Unfortunately, UCLA fell to Fresno State, 40-37, in heartbreaking fashion as the Bulldogs staged a last-minute comeback led by breakout quarterback sensation Jake Haener.

On the bright side, the Bruins’ own signal-caller, senior Dorian Thompson-Robinson, continues to exceed expectations in his final year in Pasadena. Thompson-Robinson connected on three touchdown passes along with 278 yards in the air, albeit completing just 14 of his 24 passes thrown, and he also led all UCLA players with 13 carries for 67 rushing yards.

The entire offense revolves around him and his pair of standout receivers in Kyle Phillips and Kam Brown, who each had 100-yard receiving outings and trips to the end zone against the Bulldogs. The Bruins’ defense is starting to show some cracks, meaning that their offense must step up to the task in hopes of keeping their lofty standing in the AP Poll intact.

Why Bet on the Stanford Cardinal?

The Stanford Cardinal now are flying high with back-to-back double-digit wins following their Week 1 letdown. After the 14-point upset of then-No. 14 USC in Week 2, David Shaw’s crew cruised to a 41-23 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Music City this past Saturday.

The Cardinal’s offense has woken up at last, as the team has scored over 40 points in each of its last two outings against tough competition. Sophomore QB Tanner McKee threw a pair of TD passes and ran for another against Vandy, with senior receivers Brycen Tremayne and Jay Symonds each being on the receiving end of those end-zone looks.

Stanford complemented McKee’s 218 passing yards with 204 yards on the ground, giving the team a balanced attack that is capable of standing toe-to-toe with UCLA’s own prolific offense. Holding opponents to an average of 25 points allowed per game is also a good sign that the Cardinal can limit the Bruins’ scoring potential during their home opener this weekend.

UCLA vs. Stanford Betting Trends

  • The Bruins are just 1-12 in their last 13 meetings against Stanford (2-10-1 ATS).
  • The Bruins are 1-4 in their last five road games (3-3 ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in three of those five UCLA games away from The Memorial.
  • Similarly, the Cardinal are just 1-4 at home of late (SU/ATS), with one of those losses coming at the hands of the Bruins.
  • The Cardinal have won five straight games against their Pac-12 rivals (4-1 ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in three of those five most conference rivalries.

UCLA vs. Stanford Expert Betting Predictions

The two teams involved in this matchup are trending in opposite directions, which makes this clash in Stanford Stadium all the more appealing. What’s even more fascinating is that Stanford has been underwhelming in front of their home crowd, which would explain why the Bruins are slight favorites to win on the road this week. On the other hand, one can’t deny that Stanford is tough to beat when they’re on a roll, especially considering their four-game win streak to end the previous campaign that was capped off with an exhilarating 48-47 double-overtime win over the Bruins in the final game of the season.
