2022 College Football Week 6 Odds, Overview & Picks
ESPN College GameDay will originate in Week 6 from Lawrence, Kansas, for the first time ever as the Jayhawks are a shocking 5-0 and ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25. This is Kansas’ first ranking in the poll since Oct. 24, 2009. KU hosts fellow unbeaten TCU on Saturday, but that didn’t make our cut of one of the two best matchups of Week 6.

Huge game in the Pac-12, which no longer has divisions. Surprising UCLA, defending Pac-12 champion Utah, Oregon and USC are all unbeaten in league play. The two teams with the best Pac-12 records would meet for the conference title.
The Utes come off an impressive 42-16 win over Oregon State as Utah held the Beavers to only three second-half points. Utah scored 21 unanswered points in the second half, holding the Beavers to just 70 total yards of offense in the fourth quarter. Oregon State finished the game only completing 3-of-10 third down attempts in the game with Utah coming away with several key stops. It has now won 11 straight home games and 22 of its 23 at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah is only allowing 155.4 passing yards per game, which ranks ninth in the FBS. The Utes are averaging 42.0 points per game, ranking 11th in the FBS and first in the Pac-12.
Utah is the only team in the Pac-12 and is one of three Power Five programs (Alabama, Michigan) ranked in the top-12 in the FBS in both scoring offense (11th in the FBS, 42.0 ppg) and scoring defense (12th in the FBS, 14.4 ppg allowed).
UCLA beat No. 15 Washington 40-32 in Week 5. Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with redshirt-senior Jake Bobo for 142 yards and two touchdowns. The Bruins moved to 5-0 for the team’s best start since 2013.
In the win, the Bruins surpassed the 40-point mark for the fourth time this season. Friday’s performance also marks the second-consecutive week in which the Bruins forced multiple turnovers without coughing up the ball. The UCLA defense only allowed 71 rushing yards in the matchup, limiting the Huskies in their ground attack.
UCLA has won its last six home games. The last time it won six home games was during the 2017 season. The last time it won more than six straight home games was a 10-game stretch over the 2005-2006 seasons. UCLA’s eight-game winning streak overall is tied for the second longest in FBS college football heading into Saturday’s games behind only Clemson (10).
UCLA is 11-8 all-time vs. Utah, but the Utes rolled last year 44-24.
2022 College Football Week 6 Pick: Utah
Texas A&M vs. Alabama
- When: Saturday, October 8th, 2022. 8:00pm EST.
- Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL
- College Football Odds: Texas A&M (+24) // Alabama (-24)
Jimbo Fisher used to work for Nick Saban and the two were friends but they had a major falling out and war of words earlier this year so this game has been circled nationally since. Both coaches have stated publicly that they’ve put their differences behind them. Fisher was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2000-2004 under Saban at LSU.
Last year, the Aggies shocked the Tide 41-38. How rare is it to beat Nick Saban and Alabama two years in a row? Only one coach has done it recently. Hugh Freeze and his Ole Miss Rebels took down Alabama in 2014 (23-17) and 2015 (43-37) and nearly made it three in a row before the Tide stopped the streak with a 48-43 victory in 2016. Les Miles and Steve Spurrier also accomplished the feat of beating a Saban-coached team two years in a row, and that’s the entire list.
A&M has been a huge disappointment at 3-2 after getting clobbered 42-24 at Mississippi State this past Saturday. Junior RB Devon Achane had a busy day against Mississippi State, catching all six passes that came his way and recording the seventh 100-yard game of his career en route to tallying 208 all-purpose yards (111 rush, 28 receiving and 76 kickoff return). He became the first Aggie to rack up over 200 AP yards in a game since Isaiah Spiller had 224 yards against UTSA in 2019.
Quick starts have been a harbinger of Aggie victories in the Fisher era. The Aggies are 28-4 when scoring first and a perfect 26-0 when leading after the first quarter.
Alabama lost star QB Bryce Young to a shoulder injury in the second quarter of a 49-26 win Saturday, which got the Tide back to No. 1 in the AP poll. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs led the Crimson Tide on the ground, compiling a career-high 206 rushing yards and a pair of touchdown runs. Both of his scores came in the fourth quarter, when he scored from 72 yards and 76 yards to put the game out of reach.
Young finished with 173 yards through the air on 7-of-13 passing and accounted for a pair of scores (one each passing and rushing) before leaving. Saban said after the game it was a “little AC sprain” in Young’s shoulder. Saban deemed it day-to-day and didn’t think it was serious. He reiterated Monday that it is not long term.
Redshirt freshman Jalen Milroe stepped in for Young and had a strong performance, combining for 156 yards of offense both through the air (65 yards and a touchdown on 4-of-9 passing) and with his feet (six rushes for 91 yards and a touchdown) along with a passing touchdown.
Alabama and Texas A&M will square off for the 15th time in series history. The Crimson Tide own an 11-3 advantage in the series, including a 5-1 mark in Tuscaloosa.
