Portugal

  • 2022 FIFA World Cup Odds: -161

Cristiano Ronaldo fronts Portugal in his fifth and possibly final World Cup appearance. At 37 years of age, he is the second oldest outfield player in the Premier League. But, there’s no sign of slowing down the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as he looks to create history later this year. The forward scored in each game of his 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018 World Cup appearances, and he hopes to bag more achievements and hope to become the first-ever player to score in five different World Cups.

For eight years, Fernando Santos helped the nation take receipt of significant achievements on the international stage. He led the team to its first European Championship in 2016, a National League Finals victory in 2019, and a third-place finish in the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017. This makes Portugal the heavy favorite and the team to beat in Group H.

Uruguay

  • 2022 FIFA World Cup Odds: +210

Like Portugal, Uruguay features an aging squad looking to make a mark in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani are two of the greatest players in Uruguayan history, but we are yet to see if the pair can deliver the same level of intensity we’ve seen in recent years. Nevertheless, The Sky Blue embraces a never say die attitude, which was prevalent in the rousing 2010 clash against Ghana. Both nations meet again at the Al Janoub Stadium in the first round of matches.

The two-time World Cup winners look to restore glory since last winning the tournament in 1950. Despite a lack of success in the most prestigious soccer event, we’ve seen the side attain impressive international tournament results. The team won its 15th Copa America title in 2011 and grabbed a fourth-place finish at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013. The South American team joins the competition as close Group H favorites under second-year head coach Diego Alonso.

South Korea

  • 2022 FIFA World Cup Odds: +900

South Korea’s run in 2018 was packed with ups and downs. Losses to Sweden and Mexico penned an early exit for the team. But in their last group game, the Taegeuk Warriors turned things up a notch and pulled off a 2-0 victory against defending champions Germany. Son Heung-Min put the final nail in the coffin, and four years later, leads his nation in another World Cup. The squad is headed by fourth-year head coach Paulo Bento.

The Tigers of Asia is one of the most successful teams on the continent. In ten World Cup appearances, they managed to rack up a fourth-place finish in 2002. South Korea also features two Asian Cup titles (1956, 1960) and five EAFF Championship championships. The ten-time World Cup participants also make value sleeper picks in Group H.

Ghana

  • 2022 FIFA World Cup Odds: +1000

This is a redemption year for Ghana following their heartbreak loss to Uruguay in 2010. If Asamoah Gyan found the back of the net in a last-minute penalty, the African nation would have made their first-ever World Cup semi-final appearance. The highlight of the Black Stars’ run four years after was they were the only team to stop Germany from winning every fixture at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana will attempt to rebound from an early exit at the Africa Cup of Nations. Now under the leadership of interim manager Otto Addo, the two-time African Nations champions hope to bring new light to the tournament. They may not have a stacked lineup like Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah but a trip to Qatar without the added pressure and high expectations might help them secure a spot in the second round.
