2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds and Picks

By Hank Blaine

Most of the NFL players who won Offensive Rookie of the Year became household names in the league. That should still be the case with this year’s draft class even if there aren’t that many quarterback prospects set to take the league by storm. On the other hand, having fewer QBs battling it out for the prize will only mean more opportunities for other skill-position rookies to emerge as the best from their batch.

Nitrobetting is ready to equip its bettors with the latest news, NFL futures odds, and special features for the duration of the 2022 NFL offseason. This time, let’s take a closer look at a handful of imposing defensive players who are candidates for the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and their respective odds of winning the coveted prize.

2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Favorites

Kenny Pickett

  • 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: +550

Out of all the quarterbacks selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Kenny Pickett is the only one with an actual shot at starting for his team on Week 1. The Pitt standout was selected by the Steelers in the first round to give Pickett a ton of support from the local Pittsburgh fans.

Former second-overall pick Mitchell Trubisky, who signed with the Steelers this offseason, also admitted that he was okay serving a mentorship role for Pickett’s development to dissuade any quarterback controversies that the Steelers might face. With a lot of factors working in Pickett’s favor at seeing significant time under center, it stands to reason that he’s the current odds-on favorite to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award right now.

Drake London

  • 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: +800

Selected eighth overall by Atlanta at this year’s draft, 21-year-old wideout Drake London is expected to breakout immediately for an ailing Falcons offense. The 2021 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year hauled in 88 catches for 1,084 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches in his final year at USC and will be called upon time and again in his maiden campaign with not a lot of competition against Atlanta’s current receiving corps.

Do note that the 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is also a wide receiver in Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase. Only Chase and Odell Beckham Jr. were the only wide receivers who won the OROY award between now and the 2010 season, and Drake could very well continue that trend of receivers winning the award for a second straight season.

2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Dark Horses

Trey McBride

  • 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: +5,000

The one weak point in the Arizona Cardinals’ passing game is at tight end, which is why the Cards selected Trey McBride out of Colorado State in the second round. The former basketball player transitioned exceptionally into football and was named a unanimous All-American in his final year in university.

Not only that, but McBride was also the recipient of the 2021 John Mackey award for the best tight end in college football. The only thing working against his case is that no tight end has been named an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year since the inception of the award in 1967, which is why McBride is a tenuous yet still solid sleeper candidate.

Isaiah Spiller

  • 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: +5,000

Taken deep in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft is Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller, who’s been fortunately drafted by an already established offensive powerhouse in the Los Angeles Chargers.

Considering the immense success of LA’s pass-catching backs from the past few years past (Austin Ekeler, Hunter Henry), Spiller will have a much smoother transition into the pros under the guidance of the current NFL Coach of the Year favorite, Brandon Staley. However, the 20-year-old Texas native needs to stand out as an RB2 option for the Bolts if he’s to challenge the other young running backs from this year’s class.

2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Huge Reach

Bailey Zappe

  • 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Odds: +12,500

Another player who’s found himself in a great system for rookies is quarterback Bailey Zappe, who’ll act as the backup to Mac Jones over in New England. The 23-year-old gunslinger broke all sorts of records in his one and only season in Western Kentucky, throwing for 5,967 passing yards and a whopping 62 TD passes to just 11 interceptions.

Unfortunately, it would take a season-ending injury from Jones for Zappe to even stand a chance at starting a professional game in his rookie campaign. Not only that, but he’ll still have to fight with journeyman veteran Brian Hoyer for the backup QB job as well. As such, Zappe is a mere longshot to win the NFL’s OROY award with so many detrimental factors working against him.
