2022 NFL Season Smartest Picks

By Hank Blaine

Buzz has started to build for the upcoming 2022 NFL Season. In July, teams head to training camp. Then the NFL Preseason starts in August. Although it seems like there’s plenty of time before the beginning of the season, NFL handicappers should start preparing. Check out six smart picks for the upcoming season and why they’re smart.

Smartest Picks of the 2022 NFL Season And Why

Tampa Bay Buccaneers under 11.5 wins +100

Tom Brady is back, which is the main reason, so many believe the Buccaneers are the NFC’s team to beat. But Tampa’s defense may not be as solid as it has been the past couple of seasons. Also, Terrific Tom must play behind an offensive line that lost two starters. Not only that, but NFC South rival New Orleans will be much better in 2022 than they were in 2021.

Cincinnati Bengals over 9.5 wins -115

Now that Cincinnati has signed former Dallas Cowboy La’ell Collins to play right tackle, the Bengals should be the most complete team in the league. Failing to prevent the Rams’ pass rush from the right side of the line is the reason Cincinnati lost Super Bowl 56.

The Bengals boast top five players at their position in quarterback Joe Burrow, running back Joe Mixon, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. The line is one of the best in the NFL with Collins. There isn’t a single team on Cincinnati’s schedule that the Bengals can’t beat.

Bengals to win the AFC North Division +200

For most of this past spring, the Cleveland Browns were second choice behind Cincinnati to win the AFC North Division. In the past couple of weeks, the Bengals have leapfrogged the Browns to become second choice.

What makes Cincinnati a lock to win the AFC North? The Bengals improved off a conference championship season. Every other team in the division, the Steelers, Browns, and Ravens, have question marks. +200 are overlay odds.

Raiders WR Davante Adams to lead the league in receiving yards +1150

It makes sense that, so many believe the Denver Broncos or Los Angeles Chargers overtake the Kansas City Chiefs and win the AFC West. The Broncos traded for former Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. The Chargers boosted their defense big time by signing J.C. Jackson and acquiring Kahlil Mack.

But although the Los Angeles Chargers’ and Denver Broncos’ additions should help those two franchises, the team that made the biggest moves during the offseason was the Las Vegas Raiders.

New coach Josh McDaniel traded for Devonta Adams. Devonta and Raiders’ QB Derek Carr played together at Fresno State. Not only that, but the last time McDaniel had such an electric quarterback and wide receiver combo was when he coached Tom Brady and Randy Moss in 2007.

Adams is close to a lock to lead the league in receiving yards. McDaniel is one of the most creative play-callers in the NFL. He’ll make sure Carr and Adams are a successful duo.

Jets RB Breece Hall wins NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year +750

The Jets have a decent running back in Michael Carter, but Breece Hall is a freak of nature. The former Iowa State running back is 6’ 1” and 220 pounds. Breece is also fast. He ran a 4.39 40-yards dash at the combine. Hall caught 36 passes last season, including a highlight reel one-handed grab along the sideline. Unless Hall suffers an injury, he’ll win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Kansas City Chiefs under 10.5 wins -111

Kansas City will be a good team, but the schedule is crazy difficult and the Chiefs’ AFC West rivals improved big time. It’s difficult seeing the Chiefs winning more than 10 games. Kansas City shouldn’t lose more than 7, but they shouldn’t win more than 10.

If the total was 10, over might be the play. But at 10.5, Kansas City under the win loss total is the play. The half a point makes all the difference.
