The 2022 Open Championship (AKA The British Open) is the fourth and final major tournament on the PGA TOUR calendar, as well as the only major held outside of the United States. The Old Course at St. Andrews will host the British Open for the 30th time in history and, true to its name, is considered the oldest golf course in the entire world with a rich tapestry of history behind it.
A massive prize pool worth $14 million is on the line at St. Andrews this week, which is up from the $11.5 million total payout from 2021. Although the US Open ($17.5 million), the PGA Championship, and the Masters (both at $15 million) have had slightly larger payouts this year, few tournaments in general can compare to the prestige and unique experience that the British Open delivers.
