Nick Kyrgios vs. Thanasi Kokkinakis

At the Winston-Salem Open, Kokkinakis lost his first match. James Duckworth beat Kokkinakis 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 5-7. The loss should foreshadow what will happen on Tuesday versus Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios can be a hot head. But he’s also one of the most talented men’s players in the world. When Nick is on, he can hang with stars like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. If you believe Kyrgios dominates Kokkinakis, consider laying the handicap.

2022 US Open Pick: Nick Kyrgios

Benjamin Bonzi vs. Ugo Humbert

Bonzi heads into this playing excellent tennis. Benjamin made it all the way to the Winston- Salem quarterfinals in his last. Bonzi beat Kyle Edmunds in three sets and then bested Thiago Monteiro. Botic Van De Zandschulp ended Bonzi’s run.

Ugo Humbert lost his last match to Peter Gojowczyk at the Infosys Hall of Fame Open in Newport. But in the tournament before, Wimbledon, Humbert played great for a couple of rounds, beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry and knocking out Caspar Rudd.

Bonzi will play well, but Humbert should pick up his game. Ugo is the pick.

2022 US Open Pick: Ugo Humbert

J.J. Wolf vs. Roberto Bautista Agut

23-year-old J.J. Wolf has a tough round 1 assignment. Wolf takes on the well-regarded Roberto Bautista Agut.

Bautista Agut is seeded sixteenth. He should have no trouble beating Wolf. Based on the fact Wolf is 7-6 in singles matches this season and Bautista Agut is 31-13 with a couple of singles title victories, Agut takes this in straight sets and may not allow Wolf to win a game.

2022 US Open Pick: Roberto Bautista Agut

Pablo Carreno Busta vs. Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem is the name tennis player in this match. But Thiem isn’t a lock. The usual solid player hasn’t had a great 2022.

Thiem is 0-2 in singles matches this season. That’s the extent of his activity. Pablo Carreno Busta is 28-18 ion singles matches and beat Carlos Alcaraz earlier in the year to win the Barcelona Open. Busta wins this matchup.

2022 US Open Pick: Pablo Carreno Busta

Christian Garin vs. Jiri Lehecka

Jiri Lehecka is 7-12 in singles matches this season. Lehecka played okay at the Generali Open. But he did nothing at the Winston-Salem Open.

Christian Garin doesn’t have a winning singles record at 16-18, but Garin has won 5 career titles. The 26-year-old hasn’t played since the Generali Open in late July, preferring to ready for this. Garin should have no trouble making it to the second round.

2022 US Open Pick: Christian Garin

Karen Khachanov vs. Denis Kudla

Kudla hasn’t had a great season. He’s won 5 singles matches and has lost 13, which is why no matter any way we look at this contest, Khachanov comes out on top.

Karen Khachanov is 26-20 in singles matches this season. He’s won over $1 million. Give Khachanov the nod to dust Kudla.

2022 US Open Pick: Karen Khachanov
