Greet Minnen vs. Sloane Stephens

Greet Minnen has had a decent 2022. The German player is 15-16 in singles matches. But she’s won a couple of double titles this season.

Sloane Stephens is 12-13 in singles matches. Stephens beat Marie Bouzkova in February to win the Abierto Akron Zapopan. Not only that, but Sloane tends to step it up in majors. She made it all the way to the French Open quarterfinals. Stephens takes this.

2022 US Open Pick: Sloane Stephens

Amanda Anisimova vs. Yulia Putintseva

Yulia Putintseva has a 24-16 record in singles matches this season. Putintseva didn’t play well in her latest match, losing to Magda Linette at the first round of the Tennis in the Land.

Anisimova, the 24-seed, didn’t finish her match versus Shelby Rogers. Perhaps Amanda felt she might suffer an injury and wanted to save herself for this. In any case, Anisimova should get past Putintseva.

2022 US Open Pick: Amanda Anisimova

Sofia Kenin vs. Jule Niemeier

Sofia Kenin won the 2020 French Open. But the best she’s performed at the U.S. Open is a fourth round finish. Kenin has not had a great 2022.

The American has 2 singles wins and 9 singles losses. That’s bad news heading into a contest versus tough Jule Niemeier. Niemeier hasn’t played since the Hamburg Open. The reason? She wanted to get ready for this.

Niemeier made it all the way to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. She should have no trouble besting Kenin.

2022 US Open Pick: Jule Niemeier

Garbine Muguruza vs. Clara Tauson

19-year-old Clara Tauson doesn’t have much shot versus Garbine Muguruza. Don’t get us wrong. Tauson is a solid player. She has 2 career tournament wins and a decent 9-11 single matches record this season.

But Muguruza is one of the best in the world. The 9-seed in this couldn’t beat Elena Rybakina in the first round at the Western & Southern Open. Rybakina won Wimbledon and is second choice to win the U.S. Open. Muguruza should handle Tauson no problem.

2022 US Open Pick: Garbine Muguruza

Elise Mertens vs. Irina Begu

32-seed Elise Mertens is no lock to beat Irina Begu. Earlier in the year, the Romanian beat Lucia Bronzetti at the 33 Palermo Ladies Open.

Begu has won 23 matches and lost 14. Mertens is 20-18 in singles matches this season. She played okay at the Western & Southern Open, winning a couple of matches before bowing out in the third round. Begu can pull off the victory.

2022 US Open Pick: Garbine Muguruza

Naomi Osaka vs. Danielle Collins

Osaka hasn’t played in a ton of matches in 2022. She’s 13-8 in singles matches. The reason so many tennis handicappers like Naomi to win the U.S. Open this year is because she’s already won a couple.

But on Wednesday Naomi faces a talented player. Danielle Collins is 12-8 and the tournament’s 19-seed. Osaka can win this for sure. Her heart may not be in it, though. Give Collins the nod.

2022 US Open Pick: Danielle Collins
