2022 YellaWood 500 Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

This playoff period has been something else. As soon as the postseason went ahead, we witnessed unexpected winners take over. Races are only becoming more unpredictable and underdogs are more and more viable. Last weekend’s race saw Tyler Reddick cross the finish line first. This gave the favorites a chance to hit back and level things out. However, the Talladega Speedway promises more action as another race weekend unfolds. That said, it’s worth going over Nitrobetting’s NASCAR 2022 YellaWood 500 Sleeper Picks below.

Ty Gibbs

  • 2022 YelloWood 500 Odds: +5000

The only teenager on the grid makes his way to Nitrobetting’s 2022 YellaWood 500 Sleeper Picks. The 19-year-old won the first Xfinity Series plate-track race at Atlanta. He’s looked promising ever since. The No. 54 Toyota Supra wheelman for Joe Gibbs Racing already has plenty of silverware to back his numbers up. On top of the aforementioned, he is the recipient of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series Rookie of the year award, the 2021 ARCA Menards Series Champion, and won the 2019 IceBreaker 125.

Since joining the big boys of NASCAR at the 2022 M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400, Gibbs collected his first top-ten finish at Michigan. With a solid support system and impressive results at the Xfinity Series, it’s only a matter of time before we see Ty Gibbs running with the frontrunners.

Justin Haley

Chase Briscoe remains within the top ten of the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He already has a win to his name this season coming by way of the 2022 Ruoff Mortgage 500. Although he is yet to mix things up this weekend, we expect him to keep the race leaders on their toes.

Ranked ninth in the playoff standings, the No. 14 Ford Mustang driver Stewart-Haas Racing already collected nine points in the last three races. He’s led a total of 238 laps and has four stage wins coming into Texas Motor Speedway, making him a viable sleeper candidate.

Cole Custer

  • 2022 YelloWood 500 Odds: +4900

Custer is yet to score points in the playoffs. In 30 starts this season, he managed to finish within the top ten on three occasions. It’s been a tough year for him, with seven DNFs so far. However, he managed to make his way into the playoffs for a shot at glory.

The young driver shows plenty of promise. Since joining the top-flight division of NASCAR, he managed a win at the 2020 Quaker State 400 and 12 top-ten finishes. The No. 41 Ford Mustang driver for Stewart-Haas racing also scored his first and only pole position of his career at Bush’s Beans Qualifying hosted at Bristol Motor Speedway. At 24 years old, Custer has a long way ahead of him. If the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year can acclimate himself to a more intense playoff phase, we might see him cause trouble in front of the pack as a sleeper pick.
