Atlantic
There are not lines
The Maple Leafs lost some players, but they also picked up some quality players like Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi. More importantly, Toronto’s top competition to win the Atlantic, the Tampa Bay Lightning, are long in the tooth. Tampa is an older squad. So the Lightning should show their age this season.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a shot against Toronto with Florida. The Panthers snuck into the playoffs last season. This season, Florida has a shot to win the Atlantic. The top overlay play managed to make it all the way to the Stanly Cup Finals before falling to a seriously talented team in the Vegas Golden Knights.
2023-2024 might be Ottawa’s season. The Senators have been on an improvement path for a while. So if you want to back an underdog with a chance to win the Atlantic, look no further than the Senators.
Top 2023-24 NHL Division Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs
Metropolitan
There are not lines
Carolina has the overall team to win the Stanley Cup. Ah, but we could have said the same thing about the Hurricanes before the first puck dropped last season. The Canes are good, no doubt. They’re tough to back at the +180 odds because Sebastian Aho and his mates disintegrated in the playoffs last season, and that could affect them during the regular season.
What’s wrong with the Penguins? Not much. The Pens landed the reigning Norris Trophy winner in Erik Karlsson. The Penguins new player became the sixth in NHL history to produce over 100 points last season. Karlsson joins a team that will thrive if Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin return to their best form.
The Islanders are a legit contender to win the division. NYI boasts two fantastic goalies in Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov. Matthew Barzal suffered an injury that led to 23 missed games. If Barzal stays healthy this season, NYI can win the Metro.
Top 2023-24 NHL Division Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins
Central
There are not lines
We list the Wild as our top underdog play because we like uniformity. However, let’s not kid ourselves. The Avs and the Stars should battle for Central Division supremacy.
Which team is the top pick? Dallas is good for sure. But Colorado should bounce back to their Stanley Cup like form after a less than stellar 2022.
The Avalanche are loaded again. Nathan McKinnon remains one of the top three players in the NHL. He’s got a bevy of talented starts around him. So although we like Dallas, the Avs are the play to win the Central.

Pacific
There are not lines
Most consider Leo Draisaitl and Conor McDavid to be the two best players in the National Hockey League. So what’s the deal? If you’ve got the two best players, why do you struggle to win the Pacific? Seattle has a shot to win, but the Stanley Cup champs should take their division this season.
Vegas didn’t just win the Cup, they dominated. NHL has a short offseason, which is why the momentum the Golden Knights gained in their Stanley Cup run should carry over to the 2023- 2024 regular season. The Knights to win the Pacific is the play.
