Elena Rybakina vs. Jelena Ostapenka

  • When: Monday, Jan. 23 at 8:30 pm ET

Ostapenka heads into this off a signature victory. In her last, Jelena bested Cori “Coco” Gauff in straight sets 7-5 and 6-3. Before beating Gauff, Ostapenka took down Kateryna Baindl 6-3, 6-0.

But as impressive as Ostapenka has played, Rybakina has impressed more. Elena not only beat 13-Danielle Collins 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, but in her last, Rybakina knocked out 1-seed Iga Swiatek. The 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win over Swiatek is a sign Rybakina means business.

2023 Australian Open Pick: Elena Rybakina

Jessica Pegula vs. Victoria Azarenka

  • When: Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 3:00 am ET

33-year-old Victoria Azarenka is having a rejuvenated Australian Open. Azarenka had every right to hang up the racket after, at least by her standards, a less than stellar 2021.

But instead of calling it quits, Victoria has started off 2023 playing excellent tennis. In her last, Azarenka knocked out Lin Zhu. But it was the 24-seed’s win over 10-Madison Keys in the third round that should have caught tennis handicappers’ attention.

Azarenka, no doubt, will put up a fight. The third seed, though, should take this. Jessica Pegula has lost a single set, and it was a tiebreaker, in four rounds. Jessica wins.

2023 Australian Open Pick: Jessica Pegula

Karolina Pliskova vs. Magda Linette

  • When: Tuesday, Jan. 24 at TBD

The key in this match is whether Magda Linette can keep it going. The unseeded player in this matchup has beaten three straight seeded opponents: Anett Kontaveit, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and 4-Carolina Garcia.

Karolina Pliskova has beaten only a single seeded rival during the tournament. But Pliskova has yet to yield a set loss. So although Linette looks primed for the upset, Pliskova is the pick to end Linette’s run.

2023 Australian Open Pick: Karolina Pliskova

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Donna Vekic

  • When: Tuesday, Jan. 24 at TBD

Sabalenka beat 26-Elise Mertens and 12-Belinda Bencic in her last couple of matches. The 24- year-old from Belarus is playing lights out tennis and should be considered a legit contender to win it all.

Vekic is playing well, but she struggled in her fourth round match versus Linda Fruhvirtova. Donna won the first set 6-2. But Fruhvirtova took the second set 6-1. Vekic bounced back to win the third set. If she stumbles at all, Aryan will make her pay. Sabalenka gets the nod.

2023 Australian Open Pick: Aryna Sabalenka
