By Hank Blaine

After two straight Joe Gibbs drivers, Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin, won back-to-back, Hendrick driver William Byron broke the Gibbs’ streak at last week’s Goodyear 400. On Sunday, Byron hopes to parlay a Goodyear 400 victory into a NASCAR All-Star race win. Is Byron the top pick in what should be one of the more entertaining events on the NASCAR schedule this year? 2022 NASCAR All-Star Race Recap

Last year’s All-Star Race happened at Texas Motor Speedway. Ryan Blaney didn’t disappoint, crossing the finish line first ahead of Denny Hamlin.

Austin Cindric finished third followed by Joey Logano in fourth and Daniel Suarez in fifth. Sixth place went to Alex Bowman.

A.J. Allmendinger finished seventh, Chris Buescher eighth, and Brad Keselowski ninth. Christopher Bell finished tenth.

Top Choice to Win the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race

The top choice doesn’t often put his best effort into the NASCAR All-Star Race. But this year, Kyle is driving for a new team.

So far, no complaints from Kyle or his new team, Richard Childress Racing. That’s a good thing for both parties. Busch, in fact, appears to be having a much better time this season than he has in the past three NASCAR seasons.

Kyle has won two races on the year. He’s finished in the Top 10 a total of six times. Busch has finished in the Top 5 three times. If Busch wants to impress his new squad, and because he seems more focused than in 2022, an All-Star victory isn’t out of the question.

Second Choice to Win the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race

After a thirty-sixth at Kansas, Bell picked it up at Darlington, finishing fourteenth. He will have to drive much better than that, but there’s a chance he does because Joe Gibbs teammates Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. have picked it up in recent races.

Truex Jr. won at Dover and Denny won at Kansas. Maybe, it’s Christopher “Baby Face” Bell’s turn to get it done. Also, Bell offers better odds than Harvick, Larson, or Logano. So among the chalk, he’s the play.

Third Choice to Win the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race

The Goodyear 400 winner has had a decent season. The Goodyear victory was Byron’s third win. William had been leading up to the win, finishing seventh at Talladega and fourth at Dover.

Then at Kansas, Byron crossed the finish line third. Byron offers better odds than Bell. So if you believe he’s as good of a pick, then you have to go with the driver offering the better odds.

Again, this is an all-star event. So we shouldn’t settle for too short of a price.

Top Underdog to Win the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race

Keselowski hasn’t scored a victory in 2023 but the former Cup winner is racing much better this year than he did last year. Keselowski has scored six Top 10’s and three Top 5’s.

After the fourth place finish at Darlington last Sunday, Brad said the team was where they wanted to be. Keselowski believes his crew and he will be stronger in the second half of the season. Don’t be surprised if Keselowski wins on Sunday signaling that Team Keselowski is ready to roll.
