NFL training camps opened this weekend, which is why we’re revving up early with an NFL Week 1 blog where we pick the must bet games. Every NFL Season, the pro football schedulers start the festivities with a massive Thursday night matchup. This season is no different. The Lions and Chiefs throw down on Sep 7. Check out an NFL against the spread pick for Detroit at Kansas City, as well as other top games happening in the first week of the season.

Detroit Lions vs. Kansas City Chiefs
- When: Thursday, Sep. 7
The Chiefs are overvalued in this for sure. KC’s defensive and offense lines could struggle in this game.
Donovan Smith must block Aidan Hutchinson. That won’t be easy. It also won’t be easy for Kansas City’s defense to stop one of the league’s top offenses. Jared Goff and the Lions pull off the upset.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: Detroit Lions +7
Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
We just wrote a blog where we suggested waiting until the week of before deciding which team wins ATS in this one. Here we are not taking our own advice. Atlanta has the edge because their defense should be improved big time and although Bryce Young will be good, he’s still a rookie.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: Atlanta Falcons -3
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
Supposedly, Deshaun Watson is in a good place. We’re not sure what that means. What we do know is that Orlando Brown Jr. can block Myles Garrett 1-on-1, which means Joe Burrow will have a lot of time to throw the ball downfield to Ja’Marr Chase.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -2.5
Las Vegas Raiders vs. Denver Broncos
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
Jimmy Garoppolo should be ready for the Raiders in Vegas’ first game of the season. That’s good, but it won’t matter.
Sean Payton took the job in Denver because the Broncos have a good defense and he believes he can turn around Russell Wilson’s career. That’s a strong possibility of happening. Broncos roll past the spread line.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: Denver Broncos -3.5
Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
This is a tough assignment for the Liberty Bell Birds. Philly heads to New England to do battle with angry Bill Belichick and a Patriots side flying under the radar.
Bill got so upset at the offense’s performance last season that he hired Bill O’Brien, the former Alabama Crimson Tide coordinator. O’Brien and Mac Jones will put together a scheme that’s sure to lead to a much better performance in 2023.
As far as this game is concerned, on defense, Belichick will have a plan to disrupt Jalen Hurts. The Patriots can win this straight up.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: New England Patriots +4.5
Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
It’s difficult to go against the home team Chargers. However, the Dolphins signed Jalen Ramsey, which means Justin Herbert and the Bolts offense will struggle in the passing game.
Also, when it comes down to it, it’s difficult to trust Bolts head coach Brandon Staley more than Fins head coach Mike McDaniel. If Tua stays upright, and we must assume McDaniel has worked with Tagovailoa to ensure another concussion doesn’t happen, the Dolphins are Super Bowl contenders.
So Miami is the play.
2023 NFL Week 1 Pick: Miami Dolphins +2.5
Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets
- When: Sunday, Sep. 10
The line is off. For sure, Buffalo is a solid team. But Josh Allen has a tendency to overthink situations, overthrow open receivers, etc.
Aaron Rodgers might be the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL. He’s got a legit Davante Adams type target in Garrett Wilson. The Jets defense is better than Buffalo’s and this happens at MetLife Stadium.
Who knows why the line is what it is? We should take advantage.
