Chicago Bears vs. Washington Commanders

• When: Thursday, October 5th, 2023. 8:15pm EST.
• Where: FedExField, Landover, MD
• NFL Odds: Bears (+5.5) // Commanders (-5.5)

The Bears had a 28-0 lead over the Denver Broncos. But somehow, someway, Chicago managed to blow the 4-touchdown lead and lose their fourth straight. Washington rallied to force overtime against the rival Philadelphia Eagles. The Commanders are legit. The Bears are a disaster. D.C. covers.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 9:30am EST.
• Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
• NFL Odds: Jaguars (+5.5) // Bills (-5.5)

Jacksonville looked great when beating the Atlanta Falcons. But beating Atlanta isn’t the same as keeping it close versus the Bills.

Buffalo is easily the best team in the AFC. The Bills boast the conference’s top defense and the offense is unstoppable. Bills get it done ATS.

New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA
• NFL Odds: Saints (+1.5) // Patriots (-1.5)

The Saints looked terrible in a stunning home loss to the rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the game hinged on a couple of plays, especially a fumble that occurred inside the Saints’ 5-yard line. Take away the fumble and New Orleans probably keeps the game closer than the final score.

New England is in trouble. Christian Gonzalez is listed as doubtful, Jonathan Jones shouldn’t play, and the Patriots’ best defender, Matthew Judon, is out and will get surgery on his biceps. Saints win and cover.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh, PA
• NFL Odds: Ravens (-3.5) // Steelers (+3.5)

It’s tough to look at this game and not side with the Ravens. Still, Mike Tomlin coached teams don’t often lose 2 in a row.

In this case, the Steelers should have enough speed on defense to contain Lamar Jackson. Also, the spread line on the Steelers attract. The +4.5 makes Pittsburgh the play.

New York Giants vs. Miami Dolphins

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
• NFL Odds: Giants (+9.5) // Dolphins (-9.5)

Sure, the Bills handed the Dolphins a tough loss. Miami, though, played one of the two best teams in the National Football League in their last. Buffalo is built to win a Super Bowl.

The Giants are a mess. NYG couldn’t get by a decent but not great Seattle team at home. On Sunday, the G-Men travel to Miami. Fins roll past the spread line.

2023 NFL Week 5 Pick: Miami Dolphins

Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit Lions

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
• NFL Odds: Panthers (+9.5) // Lions (-9.5)

Detroit looked great in a victory over the Packers in Green Bay. The Lions offense and defense played well.

The spread line is high, but Carolina’s offensive line will struggle versus Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions’ pass rush. Jared Goff will have a field day moving the ball versus a Panthers D missing Shaq Thompson and Xavier Woods.

Houston Texans vs. Atlanta Falcons

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
• NFL Odds: Texans (+9.5) // Falcons (-9.5)

Texans versus Falcons is NFL Week 5’s toughest game to handicap. For the second straight week, C.J. Stroud showed he’s got NFL starter skills.

Houston, though, must travel to Atlanta to battle the Falcons. The ATL is a good rushing team. So if the Southern Birds can get Bijan Robinson going, they should win this.

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 1:00pm EST.
• Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
• NFL Odds: Titans (-2) // Colts (+2)

Titans versus Colts is the second toughest game to handicap in NFL Week 5. The Titans blew out the Cincinnati Bengals in NFL Week 4. Indianapolis almost rallied to beat the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

The Colts have a real weapon in quarterback Anthony Richardson. Tennessee’s D will struggle to contain AR.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Arizona Cardinals

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 4:05pm EST.
• Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
• NFL Odds: Bengals (-3) // Cardinals (+3)

It’s impossible to bet on the Bengals. First, Cincinnati’s defense is already midseason tired because of being on the field for so long. Second, Joe Burrow is immobile. Finally, this happens on the Cards’ field. Zona covers and should win SU.

2023 NFL Week 5 Pick: Arizona Cardinals

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 4:05pm EST.
• Where: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA
• NFL Odds: Eagles (-4.5) // Rams (+4.5)

The Eagles have escaped in games because of Jalen Hurts and the offense’s brilliance. The defense is a mess after the excellent line.

So if Matthew Stafford can get the ball past the front line, and he should because of burgeoning stars like Patrick Nucua and Kyren Williams, the Rams will have a shot at the money line victory.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Minnesota Vikings

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 4:25pm EST.
• Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
• NFL Odds: Chiefs (-5) // Vikings (+5)

This feels like a trap game for the terrific Kansas City Chiefs. The issue is how the Chiefs almost blew it versus Zach Wilson and the New York Jets.

The Vikings got their first win of the season. So Minny should continue to play well. Because this happens on the Vikings’ field, we must take the points.

2023 NFL Week 5 Pick: Minnesota Vikings

New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 4:25pm EST.
• Where: Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, CO
• NFL Odds: Jets (+2) // Broncos (-2)

Denver played great to rally from 28 points down to beat the Bears 31-28. But let’s not go siding with Denver versus a team like the Jets just yet.

NYJ played a great game but couldn’t stop Patrick Mahomes. Zach Wilson made mistakes. However, he showed he has some talent. The Jets will improve off the effort. J-E-T-S scores the ATS and SU upsets.

2023 NFL Week 5 Pick: New York Jets

Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers

• When: Sunday, October 8th, 2023. 8:20pm EST.
• Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
• NFL Odds: Cowboys (+3.5) // 49ers (-3.5)

The Patriots were without their top two starting cornerbacks and Matthew Judon got hurt. So it makes sense why the Cowboys would blow out New England.

Staying close versus the best team in the NFL will be a far more difficult task. SF rolls past the spread line.

2023 NFL Week 5 Pick: San Francisco 49ers

Green Bay Packers vs. Las Vegas Raiders

• When: Monday, October 9th, 2023. 8:15pm EST.
• Where: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV
• NFL Odds: Packers (-2.5) // Raiders (+2.5)

The Raiders played a decent game on both sides of the ball versus the rival Chargers but came up short in a 24-17 loss. The key stat to remember is that the Bolts sacked Aidan O’Connell seven times.

The Packers won’t sack Jimmy G., if he plays, or O’Connell nearly as much. Also, Green Bay's D got exposed versus the Lions. So expect a lot of up the middle Josh Jacobs runs. Raiders score an ATS and SU win.
