2023 NOCO 400 Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

Martinsville Speedway has remained a staple venue on the NASCAR schedule for over seven decades. The NASCAR Cup Series punches the first of its two tickets to the 0.526-mile oval on Sunday for the 2023 NOCO 400. The green flag drops at 3:00 PM ET with Christoper Bell leading the standings after taking the Bristol Dirt Race win last week.

Furthermore, the 37-driver grid will race around the track for over 250 laps. The Martinsville Speedway is bound to see action on the 12-degree banked turns and plenty of straight-line speed. Heading to Ridgeway, Virginia, four drivers stay on top of the favorites list. Of course, Nitrobetting introduces another dimension to the race and tackles the 2023 NOCO 400 sleeper picks.

Austin Cindric

  • 2023 NOCO 400 Race Odds: +5,000

The second Austin on this list comes in the form of Mooresville, North Carolina native Austin Cindric. He is one of Team Penske’s wheelmen and drives the No. 2 Ford in the NASCAR Cup Series. Cindric moved up to the big league last year and impressed everyone when he won the Daytona 500, which also doubled as his first premier series victory.

Austin Cindric joins Nitrobetting’s sleeper list thanks to his previous credentials. He is the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion. In the following season, he scored five wins to bring his career Xfinity wins to 13. His Truck Series experience also adds to his grit, earning a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win in 2017 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and becoming the youngest winner in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series. So far, he ranks 13th and scored 175 points with an average start of 9.286 and an average finish of 18.143.

Austin Dillon

  • 2023 NOCO 400 Race Odds: +5,000

You can find the 32-year-old behind the historic No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Dillon has its roots deep in the sport. His grandfather, Richard Childress, was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2017. Dillon is a four-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, including a 2018 Daytona 500 winner. He also worked his way up to the NASCAR Playoffs five times (1027-18, 2020, and most recently in 2022).

Adding to Dillon’s list of achievements is a 2021 Bluegreen Vacations Duel 2 race at Daytona International Speedway. Before taking on the Cup Series, he also logged nine career wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and seven career wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He bagged the 2013 Xfinity championship title and the 2011 Truck Series champion, which makes him no stranger to winning and operating under pressure. This season, Dillon records an average start of 25.571 and an average of 23.286 with an overall ranking of 26.

Erik Jones

The Michigan-born driver is not to be underestimated. Despite a 25th overall ranking and 105 points scored in seven races, he does have plenty going for him in terms of credentials. You can consider Jones a Cup Series veteran by now as he enters his seventh season in the top-tier division. He drives the No. 43 car for the newly-merged Petty GMS Motorsports team. Since joining the Cup Series, Jones won the 2022 Souther 500 for the team’s first victory. His 2020 season also showcased his talent after winning the Busch Clash at Daytona International Speedway.

Adding to his portfolio is a 2019 Southern 500 victory at Darlington Raceway. Jones secured his first Cup win in a close battle versus Martin Truex Jr. at Daytona in 2018. As it stands, he logs an average start of 21.286 and an average finish of 22.571.
