2024 Australian Open Men’s Semifinals Matchups

Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner

  • When: Thursday, Jan 25. at 10:30pm ET

Sinner has done something that few on the planet have accomplished. In 6 head-to-head matches, Sinner has beaten Djoker twice. For sure, Novak has the upper hand, the Serbian great has doubled up Sinner with 4 wins to Jannik’s 2.

But we shouldn’t discount Sinner’s 2 wins versus the greatest of all time. Heading into yet another throw down between the two stars, Jannik has played great tennis. Sinner has won every match in straight sets and has only required a single tiebreaker, versus 5-seed Andrey Rublev in the quarters.

Djokovic required a tiebreaker and lost a set against American Taylor Fitz in his quarterfinals’ matchup. However, after losing the third set, Djoker rallied 6-2, and 6-3 to easily dispatch of Fitz.

The thing about the world’s number one is that often takes his time to figure out his opponent’s weaknesses. Once Djokovic got an idea of where Fitz wanted Djoker to land the shots, Djokovic went the other way, which is why the 1-seed cruised after the first three sets. The chalk prevails, and he does so by covering the games spread.

2024 Australian Open Pick: Novak Djokovic -4

Daniil Medvedev vs. Alexander Zverev

  • When: Friday, Jan 26. at 3:30am ET

It’s going to be interesting to see how the oddsmakers set lines in this matchup. Daniil Medvedev is the higher ranked player, but Medvedev struggled against Hurbert Hurkacz while Alexander Zverev dispatched of Carlos Alcaraz, the clear second choice before the Aussie Open began to lift the trophy.

Medvedev’s form has taken a hit in the last two matches. Nino Borges won a set against Daniil. Hurkacz won two sets. Hurkacz also forced a tiebreaker. So Medvedev could be tired.

Zverev lost the tiebreaker in the third set versus Alcaraz. But in the fourth set, Alexander rallied down 5-2 to beat the world’s second ranked player 6-4. Zverev is on a mission and won’t be denied until he faces Djokovic in the Australian Open Finals.

2024 Australian Open Pick: Alexander Zverev +2
