49ers vs. Cardinals 2022 NFL Week 11 Odds, Preview & Pick
The NFL’s final international game of the 2022 regular season is Monday night from Mexico City as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Arizona Cardinals, who are technically the home team.
It’s the first meeting of the season between the NFC West rivals – Arizona swept last year.
Usually, Denver boasts about having its mile-high stadium, but because of the NFL’s international series, the 49ers and Cardinals will be playing in a stadium where no one is accustomed to the high elevation. Estadio Azteca sits at an altitude of 2,200 meters or about 7,218 feet. Compared to Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High, Estadio Azteca is 1,938 feet higher. This week, the 49ers prepared for the elevation by staying and practicing in Colorado Springs.
“Just talking to a few other teams who’ve done it before,” Coach Kyle Shanahan said. Then having all our guys here, starting with [head of player health & performance] Ben [Peterson], just research the science of it and give us the recommendation of what they thought helped the most. And they thought getting there earlier, getting acclimated to it earlier would help us on Monday night, so that’s why we made that decision.”

Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?
The 49ers come off a 22-16 comeback win last Sunday vs. the Chargers – San Francisco was down 10-0 in the first half but didn’t allow a second-half point for the second straight game. Christian McCaffrey rushed 14 times for 38 yards and a touchdown, adding four receptions for 39 yards on six targets. McCaffrey started the game and scored the backfield’s only touchdown but got severely outproduced by backfield-mate Elijah Mitchell. Most of Mitchell’s production came in the second half.
The 49ers offense finished with 41 rushing attempts for 157 yards and two touchdowns on the night. San Francisco improved to 8-0 in the regular season, and 2-0 in 2022, when registering 40-or-more rushing attempts in a single game under Shanahan.
Shanahan said his “goal” is for Christian McCaffrey and Mitchell to have “about even carries” going forward: “That kind of was our goal before the game started, was to have a goal to have about even carries [between McCaffrey and Mitchell], but you never know how the game goes,” Shanahan said after the Niners’ Week 10 win over the Chargers, Mitchell’s first game since an early-season knee injury. “And then at the end there when we were just trying to hammer it down, we were just feeling [Mitchell], so we kept him out there.”
Niners star defensive end Nick Bosa had four tackles (four solo), including one sack. Bosa harassed Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert for much of the night, increasing his season sack total to 9.5 while totaling four quarterback hits Sunday. The star pass rusher has now recorded at least one sack in all but one of his eight games played this season, and is currently tied with Za’Darius Smith (knee) for the second-most sacks in the NFL.
Safety Talanoa Hufanga finished with two tackles and an interception of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. He now has four interceptions on the season and his career. Hufanga’s four interceptions this season are the most by a member of the 49ers in a single season since cornerback Perrish Cox registered five interceptions in 2014.
Why Bet on the Arizona Cardinals?
The Cardinals were 27-17 winners over the Rams last Sunday playing without starting QB Kyler Murray. He said earlier this week that his injured hamstring feels “a lot better” but he’s still unsure of his status for Monday night. The key for Murray to play will be whether or not he can sprint. He revealed that he initially injured the hamstring on Oct. 30 against the Minnesota Vikings and then tweaked it on Nov. 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Veteran Colt McCoy would start again if Murray can’t even though McCoy banged up his knee in the Rams win. McCoy hasn’t been a starting quarterback since 2011, in his second NFL season with the Browns. He’s 3-1 over the past two years in Arizona, and he’s widely liked and respected by his teammates and coaches.
The Cards lost three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz for the season in the Rams win. Ertz, in his 10th NFL season, was having a big year for the Cardinals. Ertz in 10 games had 47 catches for 406 yards and 4 touchdowns. He led the Cards in receptions and touchdowns through 10 games. During this season, Ertz passed Ozzie Newsome to move into 8th place all-time in catches for a tight end. Ertz has 682; next up is Jimmy Graham with 713.
