Why Bet on the Cincinnati Bengals?

Prior to their Week 10 bye, the Cincinnati Bengals picked up a much-needed win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 9, 42-21. That win put them back above the .500 mark with a 4-3 record to stay just one game behind the Baltimore Ravens in the race for the AFC North division title.

The last time out, it was running back Joe Mixon who stole the show with his 22 carries for 153 rushing yards and a whopping four touchdown runs. Mixon also found the end zone by way of a scoring pass from Joe Burrow, bringing his TD total for the day to five (a new franchise record). Burrow completed 22 of 28 passes for 206 yards to round out a Cincinnati’s superb outing on offense.

The Bengals’ defense ranks 10th in average yards allowed and 13th in average points given up per game and should be able to contain a Pittsburgh offense that’s far from its previous glory days. A week of rest and preparation from the bye should also give Cincy a leg up in their return to Pittsburgh this Sunday.

Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers?

If not for the 20-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints this past week, the Pittsburgh Steelers would’ve likely kissed their postseason dreams goodbye. Thanks to that victory, the Steelers snapped their two-game losing streak and still have a realistic shot at the division title being just three games behind Baltimore in the standings.

Rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett had an error-free afternoon for a change, but could still work on his accuracy after converting just 18 of 30 pass attempts for 199 passing yards against the Browns. Running back Najee Harris came up one yard shy from his first 100-yard rushing performance of the season and he has now averaged over four yards per carry over the past two games after struggling to run the ball for the majority of the season.

Pittsburgh’s defense is still far from its imposing form from the previous season, but at least reinforcements did arrive in Week 10. Reigning Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt made his long-awaited return to the lineup after suffering a pectoral injury in Week 1. So far, the Steelers are 2-0 this season with Watt on the field and that other other victory happens to be an overtime win over the Bengals during the season opener.

Bengals vs. Steelers Betting Trends

  • The Bengals are 2-3 on the road this season (3-2 ATS).
  • The Bengals are 3-1 in the last four meetings against the Steelers (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went under in eight of Cincinnati’s last 10 road games.
  • The Steelers are 5-2 in the last seven home games (5-1-1 ATS).
  • The Steelers have won four of the last five meetings against their division rivals (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went under in seven of PIttsburgh’s last eight games in Acrisure Stadium.

Bengals vs. Steelers Expert Betting Predictions

Although Cincinnati has looked much better than Pittsburgh this season, it wouldn’t be right to discredit the Steelers’ defense at all, especially with Watt rejoining the ranks. That also likely explains why the Bengals don’t have a wider point spread as road favorites and not because the Steelers do play better on their home turf. History has been kinder to Cincy in this rivalry of late, though, so we’ll still side with the Bengals albeit with some reservations.
