49ers vs. Eagles 2023 NFC Championship Odds, Preview & Pick
The first game on Championship Sunday in the NFL features the NFC top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles facing the No. 2 San Francisco 49ers in just the second playoff meeting all-time between the franchises and first in nearly 30 years.
Don’t expect a lot of yards in Sunday’s game. During the regular season the 49ers (300.6 yards allowed per game) and Eagles (301.5) finished first and second, respectively, among NFL defenses. Sunday marks just the third time the NFL’s top two defenses in yards allowed have clashed in a conference championship game, the first since Pittsburgh beat Baltimore, 23-14, in the 2008 AFC title game. The only other instance since the 1970 merger was Dallas’ 28-0 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the 1978 NFC Championship Game.
The Eagles had the No. 3 scoring and total offense this season, while the Niners had the No. 1 scoring and total defense. The 49ers are 13-6 (+640) against the spread this year, while the Eagles are just 9-9. Over the last nine postseasons (2013-21), home teams are 14-4 in conference championship games.

Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?
San Francisco won its 12th straight game on Sunday, 19-12 over Dallas. Brock Purdy completed 19 of 29 pass attempts for 214 yards, no touchdowns and no turnovers. Purdy was finally held in check by an opposing defense, but he continued his improbable run with the 49ers to improve to 7-0 as a starter. He’s the fifth rookie starting QB all-time to reach a conference title game. The previous four all lost. The starting QBs will make history in this one as the Niners’ Purdy (23) and the Eagles’ Hurts (24) will become the first pair of starting quarterbacks in a conference championship game under age 25.
The Niners have one distraction to deal with as defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence Monday. The 25-year-old had 4.5 sacks in the regular season. He also had two sacks and a forced fumble in the 49ers’ 41-23 wild-card victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He played 15 snaps against Dallas and injured his oblique but was able to return to the game.
San Francisco’s 12-game winning streak is tied for the longest single-season streak in franchise history with the 1984 team that won the Super Bowl. Christian McCaffrey has scored 12 TDs during the winning streak.
Why Bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?
Philadelphia had no trouble in the Divisional Round in smashing the New York Giants 38-7. Jalen Hurts completed 16 of 24 passes for 154 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed nine times for 34 yards and another score and fumbled once but recovered. Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert and DeVonta Smith for scoring tosses of 16 and nine yards, early on. Hurts then added a five-yard touchdown run just before intermission to cap off a 14-play, 72-yard march, and Philadelphia was largely able to rely on its ground attack the rest of the way courtesy of its 28-0 halftime lead. Philly is 15-1 when Hurts starts this season.
While Hurts didn’t have a huge game on the ground the trio of Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell combined for 234 yards on 35 carries. The Eagles generated 14.7 rushing EPA, the most of any team in a playoff game over the past five seasons.
No. 1 receiver AJ Brown tweaked his left hip in the win but will play. Brown was afforded some rest late in the contest and finished the victory with three catches for 22 yards on six targets while playing 51 of 69 snaps on offense (73.9 percent).
