Why bet on the Los Angeles Angels?

Tuesday’s 9-1 blowout loss to the New York Yankees is something that the Los Angeles Angels would want to forget sooner than later. Not only did Noah Syndergaard surrender four New York runs in the very first inning, but the Angels are now on a six-game losing streak as well.

That eight-run humiliation was far from LA’s last three defeats to the Blue Jays; all three of which were each decided by a single run and with the Angels still producing a total of 18 runs during that stretch. Superstar Shohei Ohtani, who has five home runs in 39-career at-bats against the Yankees, failed to send a single runner to home base this time around. Had it not been for a solo shot out of Yankee Stadium by Luis Rengifo, the Halos would’ve been shutout for the fourth time this season.

Reid Detmers (2-2, 4.65 ERA) will take the mound for the Halos in the second game of a three-game set in The Bronx. On May 10, Detmers pitched a dazzling nine-inning no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays. However, the 22-year-old out of Nokomis, Illinois has been tagged for eight hits and eight earned runs in 9.2 combined innings over his last two starts.

Why bet on the New York Mets?

After dropping their last two contests against the aforementioned Rays, the New York Yankees got back on the win column in their first game of the season hosting the Angels. And with Tuesday’s win, the Yankees have kept pace with the neightboring Mets for the most home wins this season thus far with 18.

All but one New York player got a hit against the Angels that day and, strange enough, it was top slugger Aaron Judge who failed to make contact. Judge did reach base on a walk and eventually scored the first run of the contest after Anthony Rizzo drove him in with an RBI-double. All things considered, the Yanks are simply brimming with offensive firepower that they can afford an off-day from one of their superstars in the batting order.

New York will have Nestor Cortes (4-1, 1.70 ERA) start Wednesday’s contest to give the Angels even more problems. Cortes has been phenomenal for the Bronz Bombers, having limited his opponents to a combined .175 batting average, which is best amongst all starting pitchers this season to date. The Cuban southpaw has won three straight decisions, recently pitching eight full innings of four-hit, one-run ball against Tampa Bay this past weekend.

Angels vs. Yankees MLB Betting Trends

  • The Angels are currently on a four-game road losing streak.
  • The Halos are 4-4 against the Yankees since the start of the previous season.
  • The totals went over in each of Los Angeles’ last four games away from home.
  • The Yankees are 7-3 in the last 10 home games.
  • The Yanks are 7-1 in the last eight games played against teams from the AL West.
  • The totals went over in six of the last eight games played in Yankee Stadium.

Angels vs. Yankees Betting Prediction

There’s not a lot going for the Angels right now and having the tall order of going up against New York’s Cortes is not doing them any favors. On the other hand, the Yankees did just lost two straight to the Rays prior to their win on Tuesday. The fact that the Bronx Bombers are starting to implode on occasion leaves the door open for Los Angeles to snap out of their skid and stage an upset in the second game of the series.
