Bears vs. Buccaneers 2021 NFL Week 7 Odds, Analysis and Prediction

By Carlos Chacon

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the right course of steering their ship towards the postseason with their fifth win in six tries this season. The same could not be said about the Chicago Bears, though, as they dropped back to the .500 mark with Week 7’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Will Chicago’s Justin Fields have a better outing against another Hall of Fame-bound quarterback in Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady?

Why Bet on the Chicago Bears?

The Chicago Bears were once again humbled by their oldest division rivals this past Sunday, as the Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers showed them who’s owned the NFC North over the years with a 24-14 win on Soldier Field.

Rookie quarterback Justin Fields has yet to show that he’s capable of leading the Bears back to the Promised Land. Fields went 16-of-27 for just 174 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The 11th-overall pick from this year’s draft has only thrown for over 200 yards in one of his four full NFL starts, and he still has more picks (three) than TDs to date (two).

On the bright side, Chicago’s running game hardly lost a step with third-string back Khalil Herbert taking over the starting role. Herbert finished Sunday with 97 rushing yards and a trip to the end zone on 19 carries, filling in nicely for both injured workhorses David Montgomery and Damien Harris. The Bears’ defense will need to be on its A-game in Week 7, though, especially against a potent Bucs offense that has shown no signs of slowing down.

Why Bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers nearly squandered a 21-point lead in their Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, they still hung on to win on Thursday Night Football, 28-22, despite facing some injury problems along the way.

Tampa Bay’s defense, which was tops in the NFL in most key categories last season, has slipped to ninth in average yards allowed and 17th in points allowed this far this 2021 campaign. That stop unit could be in for another rough ride after former three-time All-Pro selection cornerback Richard Sherman left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Regardless of how banged up the team’s defense is, at least its offense is still frightening to behold.

Tom Brady has the Bucs as the third-best team in the league in terms of both total yardage (426.0 YPG) and points scored (32.5 PPG), and their running game is also starting to get involved to great results. This past week, Leonard Fournette torched the Eagles for 81 rushing yards and two TDs on 22 carries; the first time that Fournette had a multiple-touchdown outing since Week 15 of the previous season.

Bears vs. Buccaneers Betting Trends

  • The Bears are 3-5 in their last eight regular-season road games (SU/ATS).
  • The Bears are 5-2 in their last seven meetings against Tampa Bay since 2011 (SU/ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in each of Chicago’s last five games in general.
  • The Buccaneers have won five straight games at home (4-1 ATS). Six straight if we also count their Super Bowl win over the Chiefs in Raymond James Stadium earlier this year.
  • The Bucs are also 4-0 straight-up and against the spread in games where they were double-digit favorites to win during the Tom Brady era.
  • The totals have gone over in six of the eight most recent games that Tampa Bay was a favorite to win.

Bears vs. Buccaneers Expert Betting Predictions

Many bettors will be quick to pounce on wagers for the Bucs to win their next contest considering how well they’ve also performed against the spread. On the other hand, their defense has been pretty suspect of late and the injuries that are piling up might come back to bite them this week. As such, taking the Bears to cover on the road isn’t as foolhardy as it appears on paper, especially with Chicago having a decent ATS record against the Buccaneers in recent memory.
