Bears vs. Packers 2021 NFL Week 14 Odds, Analysis and Prediction

By Hank Blaine

The NFL’s oldest rivalry is renewed in the Sunday night game in Week 14 as the Green Bay Packers look to continue their recent domination of the Chicago Bears – and oddsmakers fully expect that to happen.

This is the 16th straight season that the Packers and Bears will play in prime time. The 12.5-point spread is the largest in this series since 1998 when Green Bay was a 13-point favorite over Chicago.

In Week 6, Green Bay won 24-14 in Chicago. The Bears got on the board first, but the Packers outscored them 24-7 the rest of the way, beginning with an end-zone interception by safety Darnell Savage on a deep ball thrown by Bears rookie QB Justin Fields. Jones and WR Allen Lazard caught the two TD passes. Fields was 16-of-27 for 174 yards with one TD, one INT and a 75.2 passer rating. He also ran for 43 yards on six tries. Rookie running back Khalil Herbert had 19 carries for 97 yards and a TD. Chicago didn’t have top running back David Montgomery due to injury.

Aaron Rodgers was 17-of-23 for 195 yards with two TDs and a 128.0 passer rating. RBs Aaron Jones (13-76) and AJ Dillon (11-59) combined for 135 rushing yards, and Rodgers added 19 yards on the ground, including a TD run late in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. After scoring, Rodgers exclaimed to the Chicago fans: “I’ve owned you all my (bleeping) life! I own you! I still own you!”

Why Bet on the Chicago Bears?

Fields has missed the past two games for Chicago with fractured ribs, but he will start Sunday. The No. 11 pick in this year’s draft, has completed 58.1% of his pass attempts this season, throwing for 1,361 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions in 10 games. He also has rushed for two scores this season. It’s not clear whether Andy Dalton or usual third-stringer Nick Foles will be the No. 2. Dalton threw four picks in last week’s loss to Arizona and also injured his hand.

Top receiver Allen Robinson plans to play for Chicago – he hasn’t since Week 9. In nine games this year, Robinson has 30 receptions for 339 yards with one touchdown.

The news isn’t good for Green Bay wideout Randall Cobb as he’s out indefinitely with a significant core injury. Given the groin to core connection, Cobb most likely has a sports hernia and will require surgery. If Cobb does need surgery, he could be out 6-8 weeks, putting him in danger of missing the rest of the season. Through the first 12 games, Cobb caught 28 passes for 345 yards and five touchdowns. Coach Matt LaFleur said the Packers would use Allen Lazard, Equanimeous St. Brown and Davante Adams more in the slot in place of Cobb.

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?

Green Bay leads the all-time series 102-95-6 including playoffs. The Pack have won five straight and 20 of the past 23. The Packers have outscored Chicago, 361-195, in the last 13 home games. With Rodgers as the starting quarterback, Green Bay is 22-5 (including playoffs) against the Bears, with one loss coming in 2013 after Rodgers left the game with an injury after the first series. In the 27 games against Chicago, Rodgers has an overall passer rating of 105.9. Rodgers has posted a 100-plus passer rating in 13 matchups all time vs. Chicago and the Packers are 13-0 in those contests.

The Packers are otherwise pretty healthy coming out of their bye and could get a few Pro Bowl defenders back from longer-term injuries. Rodgers still isn’t practicing, but the week off was still beneficial for the healing of his fractured left pinky toe.

“This was really, really positive, the time to heal and not do anything now for going on 10 days has been really, really helpful,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “We’re hoping we can get on the other side of this.”
